There has been a lot of news and fury regarding the furloughing of Jerry Quy also known as @Gunnersaurus. We are going to do a short thread about the origin of this creature.
Was @Gunnersaurus organically a result of some secret genetic experimentation by the @Arsenal board of the 1990s?
He was the product of a 1994 competition among the Junior Gunners fan club to decide upon a new mascot. Arsenal’s emblem is, of course, a cannon. The mascot’s primary role as a friendly face for young supporters - they wisely opted against basing the character on an war machinery
The competition was launched the year after the huge success of the film “Jurassic Park”, so 11-year-old Peter Lovell was inspired to create what proved to be the 4̶t̶h̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶c̶e̶ winning entry: “Gunnersaurus Rex”.
A few weeks later, Peter found out his entry had been short-listed. Then he got another call and a letter from the club informing him that Gunnersaurus Rex was about to come to life.
In August 2013, Peter Lovell, now an adult was getting married and his best man decided to surprise him by having @gunnersaurus as a surprise guest. He appeared along with a signed letter from Arsene Wenger and other cool stuff.
There seems to be debate about what kind of dino @gunnersaurus is. According to Professor Paul Barrett, senior dinosaur specialist at London’s Natural History Museum, @gunnersaurus is mostly a therapod dinosaur.
“Theropods have sharp claws and walk on their hind legs only,”
He maybe a dinosaur, but @Gunnersaurus is very much required in this day and age.
Thank You Jerry Quy for your service.

Shakuntala Devi is often described as "India's most famous woman mathematician". Her biopic led discussion like what does a mathematician do? Is mathematics all about performing massive computations? Or is there more to it?
A 🧵on Indian women mathematicians by @kaneenikasinha
Recall one of the greatest mathematicians of the 20th century: Srinivasa Ramanujan. The image that he evokes is that of someone sitting quietly, writing complicated but beautiful equations involving many symbols in his notebooks.
But, this thread attempts to explore the different things that a mathematician does. Along the way, we highlight some exceptional Indian women mathematicians as examples. #GWOM#womeninmath@GWOMaths@AWMmath
Put together, the team @IWTKQuiz is conversant in at least 9 Indian languages: Hindi, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Marathi, Odiya, Tamil, Telugu, and Tulu. Naturally, we love multilingual people. Here is a short thread that you might enjoy!

Now that Jallikattu is India's official entry to the Oscars we wanted to create a short 🧵. But first, the single most awesome fact about the film:
Its a PHENOMENAL movie!!
The fierce animal that goes on a rampage in the movie is actually an animatronic animal. Read this piece to realize what badasses Lijo Jose Pellissery and art director Gokul Das are filmcompanion.in/features/jalli…
Do you remember how awesome this @arrahman song Rasathi is from Thiruda Thiruda? It is a cappella i.e., a performance without musical instruments. Now imagine an entire background track without musical instruments. Yes that's the Jallikattu bgm
Happy wicketashtami to one of India's greatest sporting icons - @JhulanG10.
She is truly world class and here you can see her dismantle another GOAT Meg Lanning for a duck in the world cup semifinal..
Her interest in the game developed after a stint as a ball girl during the finals of the 1997 World Cup. She watched in awe as Cathryn Fitzpatrick ran in and bowled fast.
Jhulan decided to become a fast bowler after watching Fitzpatrick.
In an interesting turn of events, Jhulan became the most successful bowler in ODI's overtaking the record set by Cathryn Fitzpatrick.
Jhulan Goswami is the only bowler with more than 200 ODI wickets to her name. #Legend
Today Amjad Khan would have turned 80 years old. Most of us know him for his iconic role as Gabbar Singh.
But did you know that originally Danny Denzongpa was supposed to play Gabbar - a pic from the Launch Party of the film in 1983.
A thread about how Amjad became Gabbar.
Danny Denzonpa had a hit in 1973 - Dhund. He had been signing films indiscriminately after its success.
Overcoming sniggers and racist remarks, he had become a star and wanted to cash in on it. One of the films signed was Feroz Khan's Dharmatma.
Dharmatma was going to be shot in Afghanistan, overcoming all bureaucratic hassles, Feroz Khan got permission to shoot in the month of October 1973. And no other time was permitted.
Sholay was also going to start its shoot in October. With a heavy heart Danny let go of Sholay.
99 years ago, India's greatest cartoonist RK Laxman was born in Mysore. Like all cartoonists, he wasn't afraid to take on the establishment. A thread 👇
1954. Nehru announcing that the days of France and Portugal (shown as 2 chimpanzees) in Pondicherry and Goa are almost over.
Did Indians ever fight against Hindi?
Haan BC, WE DID!
1965. Anti-Hindi students' riots in Tamil Nadu after the home minister announced that Hindi will replace English. Prime Minister LB Shastri later clarified that the language policy of Nehru will still continue.
After Shastri's death, Indira Gandhi was appointed as party leader based on the preference of the party's Chief Ministers. Not recognising their opinions, Morarji Desai refused to quit the contest.
