Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020 deals with not just inter-faith marriages but governs all religious conversions.
It prescribes a procedure involving prior notice to State authorities and a declaration post conversion.
What does the ordinance prohibit?
One of the key provisions of the ordinance is Section 3 which prohibits conversion on various grounds.
However, reconversion to immediate previous religion is exempted from the purview of the ordinance.
