The memoirs of a commission-based seller

8 lessons learned from working $0 salary jobs.

$$$THREAD$$$
I used to work in high-end sales selling luxury suits, clothing, and cars to the rich and famous

During my years working in these environments, I came across several techniques that transcended "sales"

These ideas apply universally
1. Questions

Ask good questions, be different with your questions

Let the customer talk; they will tell you more if you give them room to speak

Customers will often sell items to themselves; you don't even have to do any work.
2. Always frame the conversation

Tell people what to expect, how long things will take, and what you will do

Give them a complete picture of the start, middle, and end of the sales journey

Big tip, few do this
3. Move slowly and deliberately

People watch your actions as you walk around and talk

Don't rush, don't act panicked, don't look like you're nervous

The more relaxed you are and the smoother you appear

The better every situation will be
4. People are essentially just people

No matter where they come from in life, treat them with respect

Treat everyone like you're about to get your biggest sale from them

You never know people's backstories
5. Don't Judge

The worst thing you can ever do is judge somebody

Especially by their appearance, and especially in a luxury store

One of my largest sales was to guy in gym clothes (not "good" ones)

Salespeople that judge stay in retail sales for their lives

The best, move on
6. Have tough skin

Other people can only hurt you if you let them

In commission sales, many people will always look to get an advantage

To make more money, they will upset you on purpose

Focus on your own game and let others fight while you focus on the big dollars.
7. Have a Drama radar

Stay away from those who use drama to put you off your game

A deliberate tactic that I learned through direct experience

Working in sales, some people will purposely disrupt the whole space...
They do this to get everybody off their game, allowing them to feed off that energy and succeed in their day

While others suffer

These people love attention and negative energy, don't fall for it!
8. Stories

As you sell, tell stories, talk about more things than just the items for sale

Sports, art, books, whatever comes up, get away from the transaction

I once had a guy agree on an $80,000 car with no discount

Because we got lost in conversation talking sports
Take a look back at these points

Sales is life, this is the world you live in

These simple lessons are life lessons, not just sales lessons

Learn them, get good at them

Do well in life!

A Stoic Process: Study - Practice - Teach

How to learn and apply ANY skill!

///THREAD///
If you want to be happier and improve your life quality, you should immerse yourself in subjects that you wish to learn more about

Consistently engage with the right kind of information so you can continue to grow

But you also need systems to learn new skills quickly.
Study - Practice - Teach comes into play here

When you are studying, you are learning and thinking about the subject

The same goes for when you are practicing a subject

And when you teach, you learn twice

Seneca said of "Study"...

You are the CEO and entrepreneurial founder of your life

Don't outsource the control of 'you' to other people or to chance

Install these 6 traits to take control of your life

///THREAD///
1) Strong work ethic

The fundamental baseline everyone needs, you start here

Without the ability to show up each day and take action

You will always let others dictate your days

And control your destiny.
2) Grit

Be almost irrational with your grit to get things done

Only YOU can solve the unsolvable riddle of your life

And that comes with time, effort, determination, and attempting new ideas others have not considered.

Don't change who you are

Why this is advice is a mistake

///Thread/// Image
There is almost a noble idea that you should talk and act the same way with everyone in life

No matter where they are from or what level they are in the organizations you do business

Years of people management and high-end sales have taught me this is wrong.
If you were to act the same way with everyone, you may find

1)Those below you might find you condescending
2)Those above you might be offended by you

If you choose to be super friendly all the time it will not fit all situations

The same for if you decide to be super official

Let's talk about making better decisions using stoicism

What does the even mean?

///THREAD///
In many people's day-to-day lives during turbulent times

They go looking for answers to their questions and for some comfort

Many people will use religion or other spiritual books

I use philosophy and in particular, Stoicism, to help me make better decisions in life
Stoicism is an emotion-processing tool and way of thinking

It can help you make better decisions

Regulate your emotions, plan for the future

And deal with the ups and downs of life

Here are three quotes that support my points...

The 4 Mindsets of competition in life

From Paranoid and Defensive

To Abundant Winner

Competition is good for you

But do you see it like that?

///THREAD/// ImageImage
A successful journey can be challenging, and there are many twists and turns, and you will face competition, but that is good

You may even fall into more than one of these following categories from time to time.

Getting your mindset right is the 1st step to a successful life!
1) Paranoid and Defensive

Not a great place to be and a mindset you should move out of quickly

You feel increasingly threatened and intimidated by your competition

You get angry and bitter that your growth is slow, and you find life frustrating and unrewarding
