1/ Florida governor Ron DeSantis says that he won’t put into place a mask mandate because people in blue states that have used mask mandates are still getting infected. His logic is extraordinary; let’s extend it.
2/ All across the northern American states today, people are wearing coats, gloves, scarves and hats as they go outdoors. Yet only around 1330 Americans die of hypothermia every year, and almost all of those people were wearing coats, gloves, scarves and/or hats!
3/ And the majority of people who die of hypothermia we’re not only wearing warm clothing, they also had pre-existing conditions! That must be the real cause that they died, right? Those 1300 death certificates must be wrong!
4/ South Dakota governor Kristi Noem has turned her state into the hottest of Covid hotspots in the world right now. Mask mandates are not the solution, she asserts; one wonders if she wears a coat when she goes outside. By Republican logic, coats don’t work!
5/ In trying to imitate Trump to suck up to his radical base Republican governors across the country are actively committing manslaughter. They think it’ll help their political chances in the future, and for them that’s more important than the lives of the people in their states.
6/ While the US is averaging 47 Covid deaths per 100,000 people, the death rate in Taiwan is 0.03. Vietnam is 0.04 deaths, Thailand 0.09, China 0.34, and New Zealand and Singapore tie at 0.51. South Korea is way up there at 1.02, and Norway is at an embarrassing 6.17.
7/ Those were all countries that took Covid seriously, that imposed mask and social distancing mandates, and whose governments protected their people from the worst pandemic in a century. Here, though, Republicans gave us a Fox News quack doctor promoting herd immunity.
8/ As Americans face the most massive health and economic crisis in a century, Mitch McConnell and Republicans in the Senate refuse to pass any of the several health & stimulus packages that have already passed the House. Purely because they think it will help them politically.
9/ Instead of worrying about the 13 million Americans with Covid, the 20 million Americans losing unemployment, or the 1 in f5 American families who don’t have enough food for their children, Republicans are pushing “liability limitations“ so workers can’t sue their employers.
10/ For the last 40 years, every time Republicans take control of government they give massive tax breaks to the richest Americans, let corporations increase their pollution and rip off their customers, and fill critical government posts with political hacks.
11/ And now they’re allowing mass death, whether you call it murder or manslaughter or massive political malpractice. All so they can serve their first priority: wealthy Americans safely cocooned in their mansions with live-in staff and private jets. People like Kelly Löffler.
12/ Reagan told us government was the problem, not the solution. Republican slogans like “smaller government,“ “fiscal responsibility” and “deregulation“ all translate into ineffective government when it’s needed the most: during a crisis like this. It’s insanity.
13/ Over 10 million Americans are sick, more than twice that many are in danger of losing their homes and livelihoods, and a third of the country is uninsured or underinsured. But the GOP is making sure their special interest donors and fatcat overlords are taken care of first.
14/ Throwing Trump out of office was a beginning, but the Republican party still adheres to their cancerous stew of Neoliberalism, Calvinism and Reaganism. In 40 years it has gutted the middle class, and has now overseen a quarter million American deaths.
15/ It’s time to close the door on the 40 years this country has been living in Ronald Reagan‘s fantasy world. World experience proves that governments CAN do good, they CAN protect their people from both health and financial crises, and they CAN make “happy” societies.
16/ Covid has made it excruciatingly obvious that the Republican Party has devolved into a sort of wealth-worshiping death cult devoted only to rich people and big corporations who, in turn, fund their campaigns. Democrats and the media need to point to that more often.

1/ How do we prevent the next grifter-in-chief and stop Congress from enabling criminals in government?
2/ Trump and McConnell are both pushing pardons. Trump wants pardons for his criminal cronies, enablers, and children. McConnell wants pardons for meat packing plants and corporate criminals.
3/ Although past presidents have had family members working for them - Attorney General Bobby Kennedy is a famous example - none have ever had to pardon their family members for criminal activity in the White House. Until Trump.

1/ Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans are proposing to let employers injure or even kill their workers and bring back the three-martini lunch...in exchange for one measly month of extended unemployment benefits.
2/ Senate Republicans are trying to sabotage both the incoming Biden administration and screw working people by refusing to extend expanded unemployment benefits in Mitch McConnell‘s new “stimulus“; it does, however, make it illegal for workers to sue their employers.
3/ It’s been six months since the House of Representatives passed the $3 trillion Heroes act that gave jobless people $600 a week, and more than two months since they passed a slimmed-down $2.2 trillion version that gave only $300 a week. But the GOP said no to both.

1/ Fascists and oligarchs within the Republican Party are already beginning preparations to steal the 2024 presidential election. Trump, it turns out, was just a dry run for them.
2/ Their allies in the media are coming together, too. This weekend a Fox & Friends host suggested that Trump shouldn’t have to go through the courts to stay President; Republicans in swing state legislatures should simply award their state’s electors to him.
3/ Fascists often, in the beginning, are idealists. They just think that things need to be more orderly and tidy, and that a small number of very smart, very wealthy people need to be in charge to ensure social and political stability. And it always ends the same way: in tragedy.

1/ We must stop Republicans from helping Trump “poison the wells“ and “salt the fields“ of America.
2/ Donald Trump‘s treason extends far beyond his efforts to damage Americans belief in our form of government, our elected democratic republic, that Trump’s oligarch buddies in Saudi Arabia, Russia and China also regularly disparage.
3/ Trump’s also actively damaging the ability of the incoming Biden administration to aid Americans during the Trump Depression, and to get the virus in check. In this, he has help from Steve Mnuchin and Mitch McConnell.

1/ Will Biden and the Democrats take on the biggest challenges of this generation? Tens of millions of Americans are going hungry right now. Today. But Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans don’t give a damn, because they only exist to serve their billionaire donors.
2/ Almost 20 million Americans will lose all their unemployment benefits the week after Christmas, but Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans don’t give a damn, because they only exist to serve their billionaire donors.
3/ Over 12 million Americans have Covid and millions of them will suffer long-term consequences like strokes, heart damage, dementia, and chronic fatigue, but Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans don’t give a damn because they only exist to serve their billionaire donors.

1/ The GOP is no longer a legitimate political party: it’s a cult. It’s becoming increasingly clear to Americans that the Republican Party only stands for one thing: the privilege and power of wealthy white men.
2/ Over the last 40 years they have devised increasingly byzantine rules to prevent low income whites and people of color from voting and are now trying to outright throw out ballots in Detroit, Philadelphia and Atlanta.
3/ They’ve worked for decades, at both the state and federal level, to make it harder for women, particularly low income women, to get access to birth control, women’s health services, and abortion.
