I heard someone discussing "white privilege" in a corporate setting. They said it isn't the same as "racism" and that it means that people gain some slight benefit from their skin color.

I really don't like this, and I'll explain why...
His argument was that people shouldn't apologize for their privilege, but they should DO something with it.

Well, what is that? What should people do with it?

No answer in the session. Do you know why? Because it would reinforce the idea that white privilege == racism.
However, the idea that white people somehow gain benefit from having white skin means that people that aren't white DO NOT gain benefit from their own skin.

But in what setting? The implication is that it's in society as a whole, or in a general sense.

Holy shit this is the worst thread. lol
I agree that forcing children to read garbage "literature" is sucky, but this guy's sorry attempt to explain that proves he learned nothing with this English degree and has little wisdom when it comes to Education.

Kids should still learn Greek myths, Homer, and the like.
The "classics" benefit children when they're interesting. Jane Austin and Charles Dickens generally aren't interesting to kids.

Greek myths are interesting, Alexander is interesting, Caesar is interesting. THOSE classics work for kids.

How to solve internet censorship:

1. Support a "ban limit" on length of time an individual can be banned from any company or website. This should apply online or in person, possibly different measures for both, with an exception for restraining orders.
2. Support "Terms of Service" updates... ToS's that ban certain language or activity must have specific language that tells users what they should avoid to avoid being punished.
3. Anti trust legislation... Apple and Google control the majority of the app market, video content online, and phone OS software. These companies are too large and have their fingers in too many pies.

Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, and Google should all be examined.

STORY TIME THREAD

Back in the days of the pioneers a small settlement grew large. Then, part of the population didn't like that they had no input on the governance so they looked to move to other settlements.

1/X
One settlement was perfect. They had a similar culture but more freedoms for the settlers. But because of the freedoms a bunch of "less than desirable" people also came and settled in that place. Not wanting to be associated with them, they returned to the old settlement.

2/X
But then an injustice occurred and two of their people had their freedoms taken away. Upset at this, they sought another settlement once again. They found another one, very similar to their old one with people who held the same values they did.
