Funemployment begins. Signing up to some learning course to look at a possible career change, gonna go get me some technology learning over the summer.
I'm starting with Azure fundamentals. Microsoft is offering a lot of their courses for free at the moment (you just need to pay for the certifications).
Microsoft really went and named something Blob storage.
Learning is gamified. I totally just earnt 400xp, and learned some new acronyms

This entire thread, super important for educators and parents of Autistic children. In Australia, if your child has a diagnosis (I know this is fraught) you can take reports to the school and request an NEP (Negotiated Education Plan) that formally puts in requirements. (Cont..)
Not only do we have an NEP for our eldest, we also make sure to have a face to face scheduled chat if he has a new teacher that year (or via class messenger during a pandemic), to clarify communications around learning and specific needs. We check in regularly with our kid and
With the school to make certain that his needs are being met. On report cards and grading, we have always focused on comments around how they work (which can also be problematic, but we are fortunate our teachers are very good in this area).
Class allocation is always stressful for students and teachers. The kids list their friends and then the teachers try to put them in a class with them, and manage other stuff (a bunch of kids' dad teaches at the school for example so they can't be in his class).
We did Lucas' NEP (Negotiated Education Plan) review the other day, and discussed in that, that having the same teacher would be really beneficial to him. The teacher and he have formed a relationship, and he communicates well with us.
He's made modifications to the workload, and its been a great school year (no real complaints about heading to school for example). So today a school leader calls us and tells us they can't do chosen friendship group and teacher, so what would we prefer?
So, funny story. They cancelled my Sunday night shift... because Sunday has been steady, but not busy, and I cost more money... then they reinstated my Sunday night shift, because we had 30 booked across a few tables.
Next weekend we already have a 17 booked on Sunday night, and they had tentatively NOT rostered me on again. I was like... just roster me with a two hour split which and I will go home in the break 🤷♀️ Because tbh I am too old, with too many small tiny humans to be doing on call
Every single Sunday night (which you don't get paid for) because I offered to help out this week. Anyway, we did 1/3rd of the day's takings between 5:15 and 6:45. But go off about the $100 (plus super) I made in my 2.5 hours tonight I guess?
Remember, when you mess up and rupture a relationship, that provides an opportunity for repair. It is in this repair that relationships are strengthened. No one is perfect (or can be), all we can do is try our best each day.
This tweet brought to you by T indeed having the discussion with Grace and then her having a go at me, Lucas and Eleanor, and me responding in a calm (but not entirely fair, given she'd already been spoken to) way.
I apologised for also talking to her about it, and said I should have left it with T, but that I reacted to my frustration. Big hugs, and then some more big hugs as we spoke about how as you get older you have more responsibility.
It isn't bots that make Scott Morrison's tweets popular. Many people like him, and the party he represents, that's why he doesn't get ratioed. I know that's hard to hear, because we all think he's trash, but he won the last election (I hope he doesn't win another).
Bots are a thing, sure, but they don't roll out to federal elections and vote for the guy and party (and let's be clear a lot of people vote "for the prime minister" even though politics doesn't really work like that here. It's why the choice of party leader is so important).
Bots and sock puppets do spread misinformation, which exists on twitter, and facebook (definitely a larger market), and these do influence the outcomes of election with streams of misinformation, much of which begins with positive framing by Murdoch press.
Connery was 90 when he died. It was 1965 when he gave that absolute trash quote in playboy. Then 1985, then he doubled down Walters. Mid 90's saying he was misconstrued, and by 2006 either had a change of heart saying abuse wrong/realised it was less bother to not talk about it.
Don't get me wrong, hold people accountable, and give them opportunity for growth (not doing the same shit repeatedly). His views were trash then and remained so for many years, but I like to think I've grown in the last 20 years and I hope for the women in his life he did too.

I grew up in a DV household, and while I never thought my Mum getting hit was right, I did sometimes wish she would just be quiet, so the fighting wouldn't start, when I was 12? I'd be interrupting fights, so I'd get his attention etc
