🚨 Andrew Weissmann lists the criminal statutes that Trump may have broken when he pressured state officials to overturn the election.
Election Interference Statutes
- 18 USC 241: Conspiracy against rights
- 18 USC 242: Deprivation of rights under color of law
- Wire fraud
Here is the DOJ's information on 18 USC 241. It carries some serious jail time and does NOT require an overt act to be committed.
And here is 18 USC 242. It can carry a life sentence.
Weissmann: "It's really important for the rule of law to apply not just to you and me, but to the very senior people, including the President of the United States."
He worries that if the Manhattan DA's office brings an indictment against Trump, there won't be much of a stomach in the DOJ to prosecute him for these things as well (they better!!!)
Lastly, Weissmann says that it's very important that Trump's actions in obstructing the Special Counsel investigation be vindicated "or there's no point appointing another special counsel going forward."

Here's a video clip from the protest outside Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's house in Detroit tonight.
I swiped the video off one of the protestor's Facebook posts. They're yelling, "Stop the Steal!" into megaphones and calling her a felon(?) They're clearly living in an alternate reality.
"She's a Democrat. She's a Dem-o-Rat. She's decided to completely ignore all the credible, credible, fraudulent evidence that's been continually presented and pointed out!"
Everything about Trump's rally tonight was an awful assault on the United States.
Does it ever feel to you like a physical punch to the gut?
The worst of it is that Republicans don't care and will do nothing more than calculate how Trump's rally affects their chances of controlling the senate.
I was always taught - in school and at home - to revere our Constitution. Seeing it trashed by the highest office holder is devastating.
I'm watching the Michigan State Canvassing Board meeting. I think one of the two Republicans is definitely inclined to certify. The other one, Shinkle, is a piece of nasty work though.
But I'm getting ready to breathe a sigh of relief.
Ugh. Now Laura Cox, the Republican MI GOP chair, is speaking and tells the board she thinks they should delay the certification because everything in the election was "stacked against Republicans."
She "demands that Republicans be respected."
I'm encouraged that Aaron Van Langevald (the reasonable r) didn't ask her questions.
Now John James's attorney is speaking. He's an ass too. He's basically telling them to delay.
GOP is calling for an audit to give the MI SCB an excuse to delay certification.
The next play is to cast enough doubt to shade MI's Republican legislature's treasonous move to appoint its own electors. Whitmer could appoint a competing slate.
Biden needs transition clearance NOW. But House Dems are just sitting around waiting to hear back from @GSAEmily after a letter they sent a few days ago.
