Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update. Over the last 24hrs, we have identified 1,727 new cases & completed 19K+ tests. In schools, there are active alerts/outbreaks in 426 schools, about 18% of all schools, w/ 1,701 active cases incl 108 schools on the watch list. (1/11)
There are 654 in hospital w/112 in ICU, incl 357 in #YEG hosps w/62 in ICU. Royal Alex is currently caring for 102, w/13 units on outbreak/watch. The site has placed the entire facility on watch as a precaution. Our hospitals continue to be a safe place to receive care. (2/11)
Today, #YEG Zone will enact additional surge measures to help ensure space for critically ill patients, incl postponing up to 60% of non-urgent, scheduled surgeries that req hospital stay. Surgeries will continue for major & minor trauma, urgent cancer, cardiac & vascular. (3/11)
Diagnostic imaging & other clinical support services could also be reduced up to 40%; ambulatory visits/procedures will also be reduced. AHS will be in touch w/ anyone affected. These steps are a reminder of COVID’s impact reaches beyond those who test positive. (4/11)
Sadly, there were also 9 deaths related to COVID-19 reported to us in the past 24 hrs. I want to express my condolences to everyone who is mourning a loved one right now, due to COVID-19 or any other illness. This has been a long year for all of us. (5/11)
Since Mar 5, 72K+ Albertans have contracted COVID incl 20K+ who are actively infected. If you gathered them, they would be the 5th-largest city in AB. 1/3 have been tested at least 1x & we’re approaching 2.4M tests. 2 months ago, the pos. rate was 1.34% - today it’s 9.41%. (6/11)
There have been outbreaks in almost every type of group setting – a few examples - parties, sports cohorts, workplaces & long term care. We have seen the virus touch every region & age group w/ youngest reported case under 1yr & the oldest 108. (7/11)
Most tragic of all are the 640 lives that have been lost to this virus. Every case is a person & every hospital or ICU admission is a patient who needed care. We are all at risk of COVID-19. We are all impacted by the toll it is taking on our health system. (8/11)
I know the restrictions announced today @YourAlberta will have a significant impact on many, all who have faced a challenging year. We all want to move to a time when these restrictions are not necessary & our health system is not at risk. (9/11)
The quickest path there is by all of us embracing the restrictions for at least the next 4 wks. Be diligent, be patient & keep going. Embrace the details & the spirit of these restrictions. We need to go above & beyond to keep ourselves, our family & our communities safe. (10/11)
Thank you for the many sacrifices you’ve made over the last 10 months, it may feel overwhelming to ask you to do more, but there is no other option. It is going to take everyone to bend the curve & reduce strain on our healthcare system. We can get through this together. (11/11)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update: We continue to hear reports of communities/groups being stigmatized & healthcare workers/their families being singled out. We are all equally at risk. COVID-19 does not care about occupation, race, religion or postal codes. (1/8)
Every case & outbreak is ID’d b/c ppl care about their health & that of friends & neighbours. Stigmatizing creates stress for those fighting COVID, generates an ‘us vs them’ dynamic & discourages others from getting tested & working w/ public health to stop transmission. (2/8)
If you’re feeling unwell, stay home & get tested. If you receive a positive result, cooperate w/public health & follow orders. If you find out someone has COVID-19, treat them w/the kindness & compassion you would want for yourself or your loved one, if you had the virus. (3/8)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update. The AB health system remains safe. Do not avoid going to the doctor out of fear/anxiety. Health concerns going unchecked can lead to serious problems. COVID-19 has put many things on hold, your health should not be 1 of them. (1/11)
Over the last 24hrs, we IDd 1,460 new cases. Due to a transcription error, I mistakenly said 1,640 at today’s availability, I apologize for any confusion. We completed about 16,800 tests & our prov positivity rate sits at 8.9%. 685 people are in hospital, incl 121 in ICU. (2/12)
Sadly, there have now been 653 deaths related to COVID-19. My thoughts & sympathies are w/ family, friends & communities. (3/12)
