7 fiction books every man must read

//THREAD//
1. Blood Meridian

War and violence are a natural part of men which is why we are so drawn to it.

This book will teach you about the dark reality of human nature.

It is extremely violent, it is raw, it is bloody but in a weird way it is beautiful.
2. Gates of Fire
A fictional account of the battle of Thermopylae, where 300 Spartan warriors were tasked with defending against a Persian army of millions.

This book will teach you about loyalty and honour; two important traits that are rarely found in modern men.
3. Musashi
Every man wants to reach mastery, but few truly understand the sacrifices one must make in order to obtain it.

This epic novel will humble you and give you clarity about what it means to achieve mastery in your craft.

Combine this with Robert Greene's Mastery.
4. Obvious Adams

Most people who are trying to make money don't make any because they over complicate how simple it is.

This short book (you can read in one sitting) will show teach you one vital lesson:

The fastest way to make money is to solve people's problems.
5. Dune

You'll learn more about power dynamics and politics from reading this book than you will by reading the news.

I read this after a strong recommendation from my friend @roguewealth and it did not disappoint one bit.

Read it before the new movie comes out.
6. Post Office

A semi-biographical account of writer Charles Bukowski's early days of working at the post office.

This book will teach you about what life is like at rock-bottom for a man, and the simple pleasures of boozing, women and race horse betting.

You will laugh a lot.
7. Catch-22

It's fiction but it's so real you should read it like non-fiction.

This book teaches you about the paradox of human thinking: We want what we want until we have it, and then we don't want it anymore.

This makes no logical sense but we are not logical. We are human.

1. Writing is the hardest mental exercise you can perform

Writing is hard.

Don't believe me?

Spend 1 hour writing every day for 30 days.

Sound simple? Most people will give up.

Writing daily will make you mentally tougher because it's hard AF to do.

🎉 I reached 19,000 followers last week.

As a way of saying thanks, here are 19 UNUSUAL TIPS TO HELP YOU BECOME A BETTER WRITER.

🚨Warning: There no shortcuts here but if you're willing to put in the work, these tips will improve your writing.

[THREAD]
1) Be a student of human nature

You are writing to a human audience.

Therefore if you want your reading to resonate, you need to understand who you're writing for.

Every good writer I know is a keen observer of human nature for this reason.
2) Drink more water

If you're dehydrated, your brain won't flow.

Most of the "brain fog" and "writer's block" you feel is very likely because you are dehydrated.

Always keep a big bottle of water with you.

99.99% motivational books belong in the trash can.

There's only one you need to read and that's

The Education of a Body Builder by Arnold Schwarzenegger

Here are the most impactful quotes from it.

[THREAD]
Before long, people began looking at me as a special person.

Partly this was the result of my own changing attitude about myself.
I know that if you can change your diet and exercise program to give yourself a different body, you can apply the same principles to anything else (1/2)

Kanye on Joe Rogan was a fascinating conversation.

Here's a thread of the most powerful quotes I took away from it.

Warning: If you think Kanye is crazy, don't read this thread. You won't like what he has to say.

[THREAD]
Two quick things first:

1) If you get value out of this thread, I'd appreciate a RT of the first tweet ☝
2) To get the full context of these quotes, listen to the full podcast... Obviously.

How to write words that sell

7 profitable lessons on the craft of selling with the written word from David Ogilvy

aka the "Original Mad Man"

aka the "Father of advertising"

[THREAD]

P.S: He bought 👇chateau with the money he made from writing ads
1. "Don't beat about the bush - go straight to the point"

Your goal with any piece of copy is to SELL.

A product.
A service.
An idea.

Whatever.

If you don't believe in what you sell, then don't bother writing about it.

Go big or go home.
2. Research > Writing

"Advertising people who ignore research are as dangerous as generals who ignore decodes of enemy signals."

Before advertising, Ogilvy worked for George Gallup, founder of Gallop Poll where he learned the power of knowing your target audience.
