NEWβCDC was truly suffocated by Trump WH at every turn. Kyle McGowan, a former chief of staff at CDC, and his deputy, Amanda Campbell, witnessed WH dismissal of science, WHβs slow suffocation of CDCβs voice, meddling in messages & siphoning of CDC budget. nytimes.com/2020/12/16/us/β¦
2) ββEveryone wants to describe the day that the light switch flippedβIt didnβt happen that wayβmore of like a hand grasping something, and it slowly closes, closes, closes, closes until you realize that, middle of the summer, it has a complete grasp on everything at the CDCβ
3) βMr. McGowan and Ms. Campbell, both 34, say they tried to protect their colleagues against political meddling from WH and HHS but was largely stifled by the Trump administration.
Respect for Tom Cruise for calling out his film crew member for breaking #COVID19 safety protocols. He actually puts up some good arguments that literally the entire Hollywood film industry and thousands of peopleβs livelihoods are on the line.
3) But I say we need to compartmentalize a little hereβ #COVID19 risk is serious and real. And him calling out endangering unsafe behavior is important.
First letβs survive this pandemic, then we can live to debate Tom Cruiseβs other actions another day!
FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLSβthe 300,000 Americans who have died of #COVID19. National Cathedral in DC tolled its bell 300 times, to honor 300,000 lives lost. So profound and moving.

3) Scottβs gifts this year approach $6 billion, which βhas to be one of the biggest annual distributions by a living individualβ to working charities, according to Melissa Berman, chief executive officer of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
QUESTIONβFolks, donβt get me wrong, we epidemiologists revere the CDC. but questionβdo folks feel their basic style of messaging is really that effective to advocating public action? People who do listen to CDC on #COVID19 already heard them. But should they do more? If so, what?
2) I think the CDC has gotten better and become more independent in the last month. And CDCβs main role is not focused on social media. Lots of policy work and field work in their main HQ. But on social media, do you think they can do more? Better videos? More engaging content?
3) Like, I get that @CDCgov doesnβt specialize in social media, and they have to toe the professional communication line. But a few more engaging videos and animations like this one from Ohio couldnβt hurt.
