QUESTION—Folks, don’t get me wrong, we epidemiologists revere the CDC. but question—do folks feel their basic style of messaging is really that effective to advocating public action? People who do listen to CDC on #COVID19 already heard them. But should they do more? If so, what?
2) I think the CDC has gotten better and become more independent in the last month. And CDC’s main role is not focused on social media. Lots of policy work and field work in their main HQ. But on social media, do you think they can do more? Better videos? More engaging content?
3) Like, I get that @CDCgov doesn’t specialize in social media, and they have to toe the professional communication line. But a few more engaging videos and animations like this one from Ohio couldn’t hurt.
4) If you argue that they should stick with hard policy guidance only, then at least informative videos like this one by @NHKWORLD_News on how to ventilate rooms.

New—Trump’s Operation WS just invoked Defense Production Act to allocate manufacturing capacity to vaccine, bumping drug TEPEZZA for thyroid eye disease—shortage now imminent.
2) Look it’s a hard choice between #COVID19 vaccine vs another disease. I get it. But this is what **good govt planning** would have made a world of difference. Logistics is all about planning. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail, as they say.
3) Thyroid Eye 👁 Disease is also known as GRAVE’S disease. I know several friends who have it. It’s a progressive illness. This really sucks. thyroid.org/graves-eye-dis…
So a new study claims #SARSCoV2 can integrate into human DNA 🧬 genome. Semi-doubtful. David Baltimore, a virologist who won the Nobel Prize, describes the findings as “unexpected” & notes that it only show that fragments of #SARSCoV2 genome integrate. 🧵 sciencemag.org/news/2020/12/c…
2) “Because it is all pieces of the coronaviral genome, it can’t lead to infectious RNA or DNA and therefore it is probably biologically a dead end. It is also not clear if, in people, the cells that harbor the reverse transcripts stay around for a long time or they die.”
3) current study only showed this integration in a lab dish, although it also cites published sequence data from humans infected with SARS-CoV-2 that suggest it has happened.
BREAKING—FDA has authorized the use of excess remainders in Pfizer vaccine vials—could mean up to 40% more vaccine doses! "Given the public health emergency, FDA is advising that it is acceptable to use every full dose obtainable," FDA told POLITICO. 🧵 politico.com/news/2020/12/1…
2) federal health official sent notification to state vaccine providers Wednesday morning. The federal government has not publicly announced the guidance; Pfizer learned of the change this afternoon.
3) “The Pfizer vials are supposed to hold five doses, but pharmacists have found they have enough for a sixth or even a seventh dose. Putting those into use could significantly increase the United States' scarce early supply of the shot, reducing likelihood of a "vaccine cliff"
