The doctrine of laches as applied to elections in a nutshell: You can't agree to the rules, wait to see how the election turns out, and then challenge the rules.
That's why lawyers kept saying the courts won't allow it, even if the judges are Republicans.

Well, I see there's a cuckoo dissent.
IF there had been an additional cuckoo on the court, Wisconsin's electoral votes would be in question, but that wouldn't have changed the election.
IF ALL the courts were stacked with cuckoos . . .

By "lawfully cast" the justice means that the procedure wasn't as prescribed by statute (a questionable conclusion). She didn't mean that the voter committed any kind of fraud.
Also, the procedure in question was announced ahead of time, but relief wasn't sought then.

Not only is the remedy absurd (if election officials collect ballots early, you don't punish the voters or throw out all ballots in the country) the court questions why these two counties were selected.
