.@IEP_Berlin's @FundaTekin17, who is also #VIADUCT_EU Project Director, is introducing us to the terms of today's discussion: 'Blickwechsel', meaning a change of view
/2
"Five years on from the EU-Turkey Statament, we are facing stagnation, and increasingly difficult relations with Turkey"
"Historically, EU-Turkey relations have always had ups and downs: our current difficulties are in this sense nothing new. Relations are a rollercoaster, but are resilient"
"Turkey is spoken about a lot in Germany, and vice versa, but the content and level of deliberation is actually rather low. We have done a lot of research into mapping this"
"The Western States are unpopular in Turkish public opinion. That's the bad news. On the other hand, every foreign country except Azerbaijan is unpopular - or at least - untrusted"
"Somehow, therefore, the two (and of course Germany as part of the EU), must get along. We can create a new dimension of cooperation and exchange, and even if this failed, that wouldn't mean there is no substance there"
On that note, we move to a Q&A session on the topic "Final 'Blickwechsel' in EU-German-Turkish Relations: From Strained Accession to Challenging Strategic Partnership?"
