This is what Putin did to Russia. It’s what Yanukovych did to Ukraine. Boris Johnson is doing to UK. Trump did to US. Bush jr did to Iraq. Orban did to Hungary.
It’s a strategy. The more economically desperate people become, the easier the population is to control.
It’s more difficult to protest if you’re focussed on where your next meal is coming from or how you’re going to pay rent.
Remember in May and June how conservatives across Canada wanted CERB to be ceased immediately? Because people weren’t motivated to work.
People weren’t desperate enough to return to work was the prevailing agenda behind eliminating CERB. People had abundant time to pay attention to politics. Liberal party had its highest rating since 2015.
That sense of calm and trust in the future is gone.
How was that accomplished? Forcing people back to work. Opening the economy too quickly. Requiring students to return to school with minimal COVid protections. Permitting indoor gathering to resume without mask mandates. Refusal to make or enforce COVid edicts and precautions.
Why? Because a heavily infected community is incapable of protest and incapable of focussing on anything but survival.
Which is where Alberta, SK, MB, ON and QC are right now.
Kenney sold leasing rights to a coal company for peanuts. What can we do about it? Nothing.
Kenney just passed an omnibus bill removing PTSD as a valid claim. Listen to physicians and nurses in this COVid outbreak. They’re teetering on emotional exhaustion. Many will develop PTSD. Which the province will not be liable to treat.
What can we do about it? Nothing.
Kenney has again given himself and his cabinet unfettered ability to repeal, alter or approve new bills without the bother of the legislature process, by invoking a Public Health Emergency in Alberta. That he caused through his own inaction.
An overly stressed population is more pliable and suggestible for proto fascist leaders to manipulate. And committing corrupt acts to redistribute wealth to the wealthy is much easier when a pandemic is raging out of control.
Kenney was never here to build his reputation for PM or help oil and gas workers.
He’s always had the plan to stress the provincial economy to the point that the public becomes more focussed on survival than politics.
Learned helplessness and desperation.
That’s how autocrats keep control of the population and maintain authority. Force the population to focus on survival rather than politics.
There are examples of this strategy all over the globe. Trump’s cronies openly admitted in recent exposed emails they were trying to make more people infected. Kenney’s policy choices mirrored Trump’s. Ford has admiration for Trump’s economics and leadership style.
Conservative politicians sometimes try to portray concern and compassion. But their policy choices reveal their indifference to people dying.
Don’t listen to what they say. Watch what they do. Past behaviour is the most reliable predictor of future behaviour.
We’ve allowed premiers to make decisions that have exacerbated COVid in Canada and now sit helpless and terrified of our healthcare systems probable collapse.
It’s not incompetence.
It’s a well documented strategy.

And classic projection. Kenney, in his zeal to moralize addiction, closed safe injection sites that would have had addiction specialists to support addicts.
But it’s PM’s fault. Not the provincial govt who removed the safety net.
Not the fault of the provincial govt that transferred all the addiction recovery funds to religious based treatment centres who proselytize while condemning addicts poor choices, reverting to blaming a personal responsibility failure vs a medical condition for addiction.
Kenney is killing people with vile cruel policy. 900 addicts, over 800 COVid patients.
How many seniors who had medication changes forced by a policy change? How many hospital patients who can’t receive adequate care because of rampant illness spreading in AB?
Shocking changes are a method of installing far right paleolibertarianism.
If people would take the time to read Nancy Maclean’s book Democracy in Chains, you would be able to recognize a pattern.
Included is the history of the Chilean fascist regime headed by Pinochet. There are two podcast episodes that relate this history quite well. Please listen to them.
If you haven’t got the time to listen to these podcasts then you haven’t got the time to wake the hell up. Gaining knowledge requires commitment and a liberal amount of your time in order to hear/read, comprehend and absorb the information being provided.
Mr. Kenney is suffering from delusion. Completely oblivious, or aware, but doesn’t care.
Is he attempting to put a positive spin on his COVid response (gaslighting Albertans)? Or does he actually believe he has made a significant difference (gaslighting himself)?
Premiers chose to reopen schools, in Alberta packing them like sardines, even after being informed of initial studies in August that demonstrated transmission rates for kids were no different than adult transmission rates.
This is not incompetence. UCP MLA Luan admitted the plan was to take COVid numbers to almost hospital capacity before imposing any public health restrictions.
This is consistent with US exposed emails confirming they wanted children to become infected.
Canada is being harvested like Iraq. The chaos came after the attack and removal of Saddam Hussein. It’s still chaos.
Al Qaida emerged from the chaos of Iraq. Religious extremism.
Who are the biggest backers of Conservative parties? Religious extremists.
It’s the same game plan. We watched it occur in 2003. A few short years after Russia was overtaken by Putin. Several nations have fallen victim since then.
These are all the same people backed by religious extremism. Republicans were never fighting terrorism.
This is a good reminder of our current situation. It is still 100% relevant and demonstrates how gaslighting is used to convince voters that LPC is not managing the Chinese Communist Party.
Strongmen run dictatorships. Smart men govern democracies.
Make your choice. Do you want an autocratic CPC government that will cave to China’s demands, because they actually signed the FIPA and still support the original plans made? Or do you want a PM who puts Canadians needs first while managing a strongman dictatorship’s bullying.
Don’t be silly. We don’t vote for the treasonous opportunists who’ve sold out Canada to multiple foreign investors.
