Peter Brimelow, a white nationalist whose website VDARE was cited by Stephen Miller, lost a $5 million libel suit against The New York Times for identifying him as a white nationalist. Federal District Court judge dismissed his claims in full Dec. 17.
Here’s one of several articles Brimelow sued over nytimes.com/2019/11/18/us/…

Opposing $600 benefits to those who lost work in the pandemic, Sen. Kelly Loeffler said people "needed to get back to work and limit gov't dependency."

Since 1995, her family's farms have collected $3.2 million in federal subsidies.

nytimes.com/2020/12/21/us/…
Self-described "political outsider" @KLoeffler's two biggest donors are her husband, the chair of the NY Stock exchange, and a hedge fund titan, whose businesses have kicked in $27 million to a PAC backing her.

A Robert E. Lee statue was removed today from the U.S. Capitol as decided by its donor, Virginia's legislature.

The statue was installed in 1909 as part of revisionist history of the Civil War.

Expected replacement is statue of Barbara Johns.

Barbara Johns was a high school student when she led a strike against poor conditions in her segregated school.
She became a plaintiff in a suit for equitable schools, one of the cases that lead to the historic Brown desegregation decision in 1954.

This is the 3rd Lee statue VA has removed, after one at the state Capitol and on Monument Ave., Richmond. AG Mark Herring called the latter “a grandiose monument honoring a racist insurrection.”

All this followed Ds winning control of the legislature in 2019 under @RalphNortham

Signers include the House Speaker and Majority Leader.
A federal judge in PA dismissed a suit w some of the same complaints as the GOP lawmakers, wrote the Trump campaign provided only “strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations” that were “unsupported by evidence.”

The crush of news is unrelenting but don’t miss this:

‘As a candidate, Trump vowed to drain the swamp. But he did not merely fail to end favor-seeking; he reinvented it, turning his hotels and clubs into the new back rooms, where special interests reign.’ nytimes.com/interactive/20…
‘Trump built a system of direct presidential influence-peddling unrivaled in modern American politics’

By 9 NYT reporters.
Under huge financial stress before his election, Trump’s businesses discovered a lucrative new revenue steam: people who wanted something from the president.

S.C. absentee ballot received by a voter after SCOTUS ruling Monday that witness signatures *are* required. Seems likely to lead to many discarded votes.
S.C. does not have a process for notifying voters of a missing signature to allow them to ‘cure’ a discarded ballot. lwv.org/newsroom/press…
Election Board records show this ballot was mailed to the voter on Oct 7, two days after the SCOTUS decision. It arrived on Friday.

On the day POTUS returned to the WH and whipped off his mask, I spoke with voters in central PA, including many who scoffed at the threat of the virus nytimes.com/2020/10/06/us/…
My main takeaway: many Trump voters were full of misinformation about Covid that echoes the false claims the president has made all year.
E.g., they falsely claimed that data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on deaths and cases were wrong, that getting the virus was no worse than getting the flu, and that it was introduced and kept in the spotlight only by Mr. Trump’s Democratic opponents.
