Thread: Well there might just be some light at the end of the tunnel...The first rays of the #WinterSolstice sun penetrated the inner chamber of Newgrange this morning...The new solar year starts with sunshine...Which in Ireland is a very rare occurrence...A good omen???
The Newgrange tumulus was built in Ireland in the late 4th millennium BC, most likely as the solar temple, and was also used as the (elite) burial ground...Just like our cathedrals are today... :)
Newgrange, was built in the East of Ireland by the first farmers, the same guys who built Poulnabrone dolmen in the West of Ireland...And who all perished, according to the Irish Annals, during "the flood" when sunshine was replaced by never ending rain... oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.com/2020/10/burren…
The whole construction of the Newgrange tumulus indicates that it was constructed as a shrine dedicated to the holy union between father sky and mother earth. The tumulus is shaped like a pregnant woman's belly. The inside of the tumulus resembles female reproductive organs...
The long entrance tunnel was built in such a way, that on the morning of The Winter Solstice (actually few days on either end of The Winter Solstice), the first morning sun rays penetrate the entrance tunnel, and fall directly on the big bowl located in the back chamber...
Did this bowl once contain grain seeds? If I was a first Irish farmer, whose life depended on the sun shining and getting rid of "this fucking black rain clouds"...I would have designed my sun temple exactly like this... oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.com/2016/12/newgra…
Oh and I would also place a giant stone bread in front of the entrance...That's this oval stone with swirling spirals and romboids...By the way this is an old photo of the tumulus before it was restored...
How do we know it's a giant bread? Well we don't. But we (read me) suspect that it might have been, as the same kind of votive breads, just much smaller and made of clay, were found in the Balkans in Vinča culture layers, dated to 5th millennium BC...
The first farmers came to Ireland through the Balkans, where they spent a considerable time learning how to adopt grain agriculture to European climate oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.com/2015/03/blagot…
So it is possible that once they started moving up north west, they brought with them their votive breads...And rituals...We don't know what kind of rituals were performed in front or inside Newgrange...But maybe this was one of them...oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.com/2016/12/can-yo…
Serbian Christmas ritual:
Husband hiding behind giant bread or pile of breads: Can you see me?
Family : We can a little!
Husband: This year a little but the next hopefully not at all!
Pic: Breaking communal Christmas (Winter Solstice) bread, Serbia
The same ritual was once performed by Pagan Baltic Slavs...There, a priest hid behind a giant bread, asking the worshipers: Can you see me? And when the worshipers replied with "Yes a little", the priest said the prayer: "This year a little and next not at all"...
How old is this ritual? Well we have no idea...But considering that we have proof of "extraordinary" age of human myths and rituals, it is quite possible that this ritual could be truly ancient...And that it could have once been performed in front of Newgrange...Who knows...
The proof that our "folklore" could be actually ancient, are the Irish legends surrounding Newgrange, which are truly astounding...oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.com/2019/12/the-yo…
The legend is called "How Aengus (god of youth) stole Brú na Bóinne (an area of the Boyne River Valley that contains the passage tombs Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth) from his father Dagda (giving god)"...
According to the 11th century Book of Lecan, the Dagda had built the Brú for himself and his three sons Aengus, Cermait, and Aed. But Aengus wanted it all for himself. The 12th century Book of Leinster describes how Oengus tricked Dagda into giving him the Brú for all eternity...
Aengus asked his father if he could live in Brú na Bóinne for "a day and a night", and Dagda agreed. Irish has no indefinite article, so "a day and a night" is the same as "day and night", which covers all time, and so Aengus took possession of Brú na Bóinne permanently...
Well, this is the story and its interpretation. But what if Aengus actually really meant "a day and a night" and the "cunning trick" part was added later because the original meaning of this story was forgotten?
Here is what I think. Aengus, Jungaz, Mac Og, The Young one, is the young sun, known in Slavic mythology as Jarilo. Just like Aengus, Jalio was the "Youngest son"...
According to Slavic beliefs, Jarilo is born on Winter Solstice. The same day when the first morning sun, new born sun, enters Newgrange through the entrance. The only day sun enters Newgrange...
Dagda made the sun stand still for nine months so that Aengus was conceived, gestated and born in one day...The day of winter solstice, when the sun rays penetrate the inner chamber of the Newgrange tumulus...
Very interesting indeed.

I believe that Aengus was The young sun and that his name actually means "Young one". Just like Slavic Jarilo, whose name also means "Young one". And Apollo...
So here is the really interesting bit...After the Newgrange was built, when did people stop using it as the solar temple? Why am I asking this? Because this is what would determine how old these legends are...
If, as some people believe, Newgrange was abandoned during the early Bronze age, then these legends could be 4,500 years old...If, as some people believe, Newgrange was in continuous use as temple until the arrival of Christianity...Well I don't know which is more astounding...
Oh, by the way, the genes of the first farmers, are still present in Ireland. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_Eur…

They are the I2a people, the megalith builders...

oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.com/2020/10/giants…

Who probably joined the farming party in the Balkans...
So both scenarios that explain the preservation of the Newgrange legends is possible...And probably both happened...
The descendants of the Newgrange builders continued using the site as the holy site, and continued telling their children the stories about the miraculous birth of Angus...Another "youngest son" who ended up inheriting his father's domain...oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.com/2020/10/the-yo…
I feel a bit better now...Off to shave my head...🙂 Don't worry, it's just that time of the month...The haircut time...

As promised, thread: “Does it mean there will be no gifts this year?” by Jakub Rozalski

This painting depicts 3 little carolers stumbling upon Krampus killing Santa...I love this image...Because it shows how successful Christian propaganda was in turning Old Gods into New Devils Image
I also love how New Age "Pagans" lapped it all up...

"Austria struggles with marauding Krampus demons gone rogue. Police record rising violence and drunkenness in relation to traditional folkloric festivities!"

A news article title from the last year's papers 🙂 Image
I would here like to answer the question: Who the hell is Krampus and why is he acting the goat?

I can tell you straight away that the "Evil Krampus" dudes are not gonna like the answer...At all...

What the heck is the meaning of this scene? Here is the stamp print which makes the scene depicted on the stamp much clearer... Image

Thread (longish): Why was Orion seen by Ancient Greeks as a "the greatest hunter" armed with a cudgel (club)? And why do Bulgarians call Orion "cudgels (clubs)" and why do Serbs call Orion "Baba's (grandmother's) sticks" and all the stars "Baba's (grandmother's) cudgels (clubs)"?
Well to answer all these questions we have to look at Orionids, the most prolific meteor shower observable from Earth. It occurs during the period October 2nd – November 7th but it peaks between October 20th and October 22nd.
The meteors that streak across the sky are some of the fastest and brightest among meteor showers, because the Earth is hitting a stream of particles almost head on. They also often have long tails and exhibit distinctive colors before they burn up.

Thread: This is going to be a longish thread, so I hope you are sitting comfortably...In this thread I would like to talk about Ganesha, the god with an elephant head and one of the most revered Indian deities...The full article can be found here: oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.com/2020/11/ganesh…
Ganesha is popularly thought to be the son of Shiva and Parvati, but there are myths in which he is created by Shiva, by Parvati, by Shiva and Parvati, or in some other manner and is later discovered by Shiva and Parvati...
The most well-known Ganesha creation story is probably the one taken from the Shiva Purana:

Thread: Rapid eye movement (REM) is the stage of sleep characterized by rapid saccadic movements of the eyes. During this stage, the activity of the brain's neurons is quite similar to that during waking hours. Most of the vividly recalled dreams occur during REM sleep...
According to a new study by researchers at Tel Aviv University in Israel, each flick of the eye that occurs during REM sleep accompanies the introduction of a new image in our dream, with the movement essentially acting like a reset function between individual dream snapshots...
Now here is something weird. My wife told me, and since then other people confirmed it, that when I go into deep thinking mode, my eyes, which are opened at the time, flicker as if I am in the REM phase...Apparently it looks scary...
