As #COVID19 continues to spread you may be wondering how the world of stock photography is reacting to the pandemic.

Well, don't worry: they've brought their A game... Image
Pictures are vital for news stories, and as the press coverage of #coronavirus increases so does the demand for stock photography to illustrate these.

In a sensitive and responsible way of course... Image
The speed of the pandemic has meant that stock photography has had to move rapidly to handle it. Many have subtly retooled older images to be more relevant to the current outbreak... ImageImage
...whilst others have broken out the Sharpies and improvised as best they could. Image
One of the main problems stock photography faces is deciding what colour the coronavirus should be: red, orange, green or turquoise? At the moment there is no scientific consensus. ImageImageImageImage
COVID19 symptoms can be mild or severe, and stock photography has both types covered. ImageImage
Obviously life has changed because of coronavirus and we all need to be reminded to keep social distancing through subtle visual cues... Image
...and remembering to hand wash or use sanitizers is vital. Fortunately Photoshop can help here... ImageImage
...otherwise we may all end up self-isolating! Image
Avoid handshakes at the current time. Here are two co-workers avoiding social distancing rules to elbow bump. Don't be like them... Image
...and if you can work from home then you should, as these models are demonstrating. ImageImage
Both scientists and doctors are doing what they can to deal with this pandemic... ImageImage
...and the world of stock photography is doing everything it can to support their efforts. ImageImage
So here's to the many, many stock photography agencies trying to help us keep calm and carry on at the present time. It's not a glamorous job trying to think up image ideas for coronavirus, but we can trust them to do their very best! Image

Today in pulp I look at the scandalous history of lady jeans!

Well there's a turn-up... Image
The denim jean and its predecessor the dungaree have a long history, and were traditionally seen as work wear for men.

But WWII changed all that... Image
As women headed for the factories and shipyards they found that a sturdy denim bib-n-brace, paired with a stout headscarf, was the way to go! Image

Time for a few Hindi heroes from the '70s* and '80s: the first Golden Age of Indian comics!

(*you can tell by the sideburns)
Totan Ka Kahar, from Manoj Comics. He clearly likes playing Doom. A lot...
The original Super Commando Dhruva, from Raj Comics. Yes he can fight robot dogs. No he doesn't know how stairs work.

Time once again for my occasional series "Women with great hair fleeing gothic houses!"

And today I'm looking back at the books of Dorothy Eden.
Dorothy Eden wrote over 40 gothic romances between 1940 and 1982 and remains one of the best known names of the genre.
Must... flee... cats...

Cat's Prey, by Dorothy Eden. Ace Gothic, 1970.

Today in pulp... how the East German Stasi waged war on the Commodore 64!

We'll need to take this story one byte at a time. Komm mit mir...
In the 1980s if you wanted a home computer behind the Iron Curtain you had two choices: buy a locally produced clone of a Western one... Image
...or navigate your way around import controls and try to get a Western one. It was tricky, but it was possible. Image

Today in pulp: what name should you give your pulp vigilante anti-hero? Geoff? Sebastian? Todger?

Well funnily enough there are some rules about this. To learn more come this way...
By the end of the 1960s pulp was growing tired of swinging superspies. Dry martinis, world domination and exotic locations weren't really cutting it any more. The audience was changing.
The darker side of the '60s counterculture was causing quite a moral panic by the decade's end. Hippies, bikers, cultists and radicals were dominating the tabloid mind.
