Kind of a theme with mine
After those I read this, which is the book every person on the left should read.
Nowadays I find I have zero interest in books about current political figures. All those Trump books? 🙄

I find books about dead political leaders far more instructive about what needs to be done.
The book people on the left like a lot that I did not like was Zinn's A People's History. I understand the problem of writing history centering "the great man," but you can screw up by not emphasizing them enough too imo, if only for their significant impact.

its not a dealbreaker but i just realized AOC is a massive hand-talker. she doesnt just have one hand-move, but she moves her hands all over the danged place.

(this is meaningless theater criticism with absolutely no serious implications)
biden doesnt move his hands a lot. harris moves her hands but the motion is very deliberate and not "wild." trump has accordion hands and loves to do the "ok" sign. obama is a pointer. bill clinton is a thumb pointer. hrc nods in 180 degrees.
biden's "tic" is this thing he does where he rubs the side of his nose. he does it in almost every speech. the trump equivalent is when he purses his lips and tilts his head as if to say "what i just said is amazing and you should applaud it."

There are some people on the left who practically salivate over the idea that Democrats should throw anti-bigotry aside. To be perfectly honest I think a lot of them have never really spoken to a black person. They've spoken at one, but not *to* one.
Their take is basically: Can we just stop talking about racism and misogyny and transphobia and the rest? Let's just talk about Medicare for all and UBI and that will solve *everything*.

The people who think this way are fucking stupid.
And they always insist when Republicans make some populist noises they've magically "outflanked the Democrats." Look, the Democrats are generally too attached to means tested neolib bullshit, but Josh Hawley sounding like Bernie isn't an actual movement on the right.

Duquan rolled over and hit the alarm. His vision was still blurry, but he looked at the calendar on his wall. There it was, in black and white. December 21, or B-Day as everyone had started calling it.

He didn't feel any different, and he wondered if it was a hoax. Image
Then suddenly, the skies darkened. It was if midnight had suddenly fallen. The sun quickly faded away, replaced by a black orb.

Duquan heard... what was that? Music?

"He was a buffalo soldier," Bob Marley quietly sang, off in the distance.
Lightning flashed across the jet-black sky.

Then, in the loudest voice anyone has ever heard, Martin Luther King said, "Rise, blacks, rise."

Duquan's hands began to blow and he felt a charge of electricity surge through his system.

The Blackening had begun.

Gonna write a drama about the high stakes world of professional Monopoly players. The intrigue, the romance, the thuggish tactics, all of it.
"Grandal's just moving across the board buying up random properties! He's not even trying to consolidate his colors."

"I've only seen this maneuver one time before. The 72 championships."

"You don't mean..."

"He's doing the Hickham Maneuver."
She straddles him and reaches behind him. We close up on him, nuzzling his face against her neck.

She picks up the pewter Scottish terrier. He grins, knowing what happens next.

Sensually she slides the figure down the bridge of his nose.

"Do not pass go," he whispers.

There are people who keep insisting AOC must "wait her turn" and I remember how people said that about Obama and he never even served a full term in the Senate, thank God.
It also reminds me of how people used to insist NFL quarterbacks could only be good if they spent years and years holding a clipboard on the sidelines and nowadays it's mostly young guys who you just throw into the game and they sink or swim.
I dunno how AOC is gonna pan out. I'm inclined to think she has raw superstar talent, so who knows? But this idea that she shouldn't buck the status quo and should just sit in Congress with her mouth shut and hands in her lap is stupid and silly.
