And now a happy-making Christmas story. “Alan Jones settles defamation lawsuit with SBS.” smh.com.au/national/nsw/a…

“SBS filed a defence of truth to the imputations that Jones was a racist, a misogynist, a liar and a disgraceful high school teacher.”
“SBS also denied the meanings claimed by Jones, pleaded the defence of honest opinion, and asserted that Jones’ reputation was already so bad it could not be damaged by the broadcast.”
This relates to a tribute segment on “the Feed” by Alex Lee which said Jones "made a career out of bullying people", "gleefully used racial slurs" and "spread lies and fake news".

People of NSW should be very proud of the NSW Health team who made this possible overnight. They’ve been working double shifts since, well, April so think of them over the break. Your break, not theirs.
As I’ve said before, it takes a LOT of work to fake this much data and hide all the patients in the Sydney Metro tunnels under Waterloo.
I jest. The patients are actually hidden in the old air raid shelters in the disused tunnels off St James station. They don’t show it in the public tours, but there’s a whole mothballed hospital down there dating from the 1940s. abc.net.au/news/2016-10-1…

Thu plan: A day of total excitement including doing the the laundry; clearing the desk and inbox; catapulting many tasks into next week and next year; opening a bottle or two; and sinking into oblivion. It’s what Jesus would’ve wanted. Probably.
Christmas hasn’t been a particularly big thing for me in quite some years. It’s usually a quiet day, and I’m perfectly fine with that. But I’m not the sort or arsehole who begrudges other people’s experiences. Far from it. I hope your holiday season is wonderful, despite 2020.
I’m a completely different sort of arsehole.

I have a surprise* anonymous** gift! I winder what’s inside?***

* Nah, I knew it was coming.
** And I know who sent it.
*** I know what’s inside.
Tada! It is The Gospel Solera Rye! shop.thegospelwhiskey.com/products/soler…
Now I want to make an old fashioned, because that’s sort of why this bottle turned up, but I don’t have an orange for the twist.

@expectproblems They great thing about this, @dobes @jpwarren @NewtonMark, is that with a one-chip computer and some microSD cards you could build something the same size that’d totally outperform the 1401.
@expectproblems @dobes @jpwarren @NewtonMark IBM 1401: One 4000-character memory module in the main box, more could be added. 11.5µs cycle time is about 87kHz. So, yes. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_1401

Wed plan, an outline: Slow-ish start because why not; 1030 record chat for “The 9pm Edict” podcast; lunch, shopping, and errands, Haymarket and surrounds; train to Wentworth Falls; quiet evening.
I hope this plan is disrupted by my new phone arriving, and me collecting it from the shop. This won’t happen, of course. It’ll arrive tomorrow, once I’m back in the Mountains, and I’ll have to choose between patience or a four-hour round trip errand.
Another excellent conversation just recorded for “The 9pm Edict” with @yun_aus about the Australia-China relationship this year, and about A Certain Senator from Tasmania. This end-of-year episode is going to be so good.
