"While Ukraine has officially backed Belarus’ peaceful protesters, Yevhen Shevchenko, a lawmaker with the Ukrainian president’s Servant of the People party, traveled to Minsk on Dec. 22 to support the country’s dictator." kyivpost.com/ukraine-politi…
"On Dec. 22, Ukrainian lawmaker Shevchenko traveled to Minsk to meet with Belarusian lawmaker Andrey Savinykh, head of the Belarusian parliament’s international relations committee.
Shevchenko claimed that people in Belarus are protesting “because they are bored.”"
"In 2019, Shevchenko appeared on a Russian state-owned propaganda networks and accused “Ukrainian nationalists” of stalling the Donbas peace talks. ...Most Ukrainian politicians boycott invitations to appear on Russian TV."
"the party has also kept notorious lawmakers Oleksandr Dubinsky and Maksym Buzhansky [who] have supported oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky’s desire to regain control over PrivatBank and often push a pro-Russian agenda... voted against laws that could have hurt Kolomoisky’s interests."

A few conclusions from the Trump era: 1. The US needs far more transparency. Tax returns, incomes & assets must be declared in exact numbers, not in intervals from 1-10. 2. All offshore holdings must be declared exactly. 3. Declare the ultimate beneficiaries of all companies!
4. Prohibit the president from pursuing active business. Any assets must be held in a blind trust. 5. The president should be prohibited from hiring anybody of his family in the top of the government. 6. The president's right to offer pardon should be abolished.
7. Voters should be automatically registered by law. 8. Voter repression should be legislated to be a felony punishable with prison. 9. The electoral college should be abolished as a pre-democratic remnant.
We know very little about Trump's finances, but we do know that Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev overpaid him $54 million for one house in Palm Beach, where he has not lived. Why?
We also know that Trump has done business with three dozen of truly dubious post-Soviet businessmen in New York & Miami (see @craigunger & @tomburgis) & that Deutsche Bank that has been punished for various money laundering crimes with Russia has financed him.
Trump has fought tooth & nail to keep his finances secret. Incredibly, the US lack of transparency has allowed him to do so. This should stop. We need to know. Most of his close friends appear to be criminals to judge from their US verdicts.
It is impressive how many problems Trump manages to create during his last 3 months in power. 1. He has killed the two-state solution in Israel/Palestine by supporting Netanyahu by all means. 2. By selling F-35 to UAE he has increased the risk of war in the region.
3. By recognizing Morocco's right to West Sahara, he has restarted a war stalled in 1991. 4. Sudan changed regime in early 2019, but only now the US takes it off the list of state terrorists & only in return for recognizing Israel. (Was Trump paid for that?)
5. Trump has insisted on the US withdrawing its 700 troops from Somalia. Now they are no longer allowed to operate from Kenya, so the US has given up Somalia to Al-Queda allied Al-Shabath.
It is increasingly clear that Trump is pursuing a scorched-earth strategy wanting to cause maximum damage to the US to encumber Biden. Fortunately, that means that he recognizes that he has lost & will have to leave on January 20, but he can cause much damage before.
In foreign policy, he tries to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan, Iraq & Somalia, while contemplating bombing Iran, but he can do much more.
In fiscal policy, Trump can cause far more damage. He has clearly called on Mnuchin to withdraw $450 billion from credit subsidies from the US Fed. He is likely to block all Covid fiscal stimulus. He can cause a government shutdown (again) by December 11.
Putin appears to have achieved a complete victory in Nagorny Karabakh with minimal resources. 1. He let the wealthier & better-equipped Azerbaijani troops retake the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia since early 1990s, reaching a sustainable territorial setup.
2. By refusing earlier Russian military support to Armenia, Putin has cut democratic PM Pashinyan down to size. It remains to be seen whether the Armenian kleptocrats from Nagorny Karabakh will return to power, Putin's obvious preference.
3. By sending in 1,800 special forces as peacekeepers to Nagorny Karabakh, Putin has made Armenia even more dependent on Russia, making it increasingly look like a protectorate rather than an independent state.
According to a Oct. 30-Nov. 5 national opinion poll by Razumkov Center, President Volodymyr Zelensky maintained a rating of 31.2% (among decided voters), followed by his predecessor Petro Poroshenko on 21.1% and pro-Russian opposition leader Yuriy Boyko on 16.9%.
In terms of popular support for political parties, the ruling Servant of the People party’s electoral rating stood at 27.9% as a share of decided voters, followed by former president Petro Poroshenko’s European Solidarity at 21.2% and pro-Russian Opposition Platform at 16.5%.
When asked about their perception of the domestic situation, 66% of respondents described it as “movement in the wrong direction”, with 17% being optimistic (“right direction”) and the remaining 17% undecided. (razumkov.org.ua)
