We are so honored to have spent this year with you! As we wrap up December — and a decade — we want to reflect on the special moments we shared together. Stay tuned as we head onward into 2021! 🔨 Image
1️⃣ Through incredible resilience and grassroots devotion, we won our re-election by a landslide of 18,000 votes — including two precincts that went to President Trump!

Our community said Anna’s gotta go back to the Florida House and we are prepared to make you proud! 💪🏽 Image
2️⃣ Championing constituent services is always a priority for us.

This year, our work in supporting constituents thru #COVID19 led to an @OrlandoWeekly Readers’ Choice Award as Best Local Politician in 2020, & Orlando Magazine noted us as one of 18 local leaders during crisis. Image
3️⃣ Giving has been an important theme for us in 2020. Where I could, I have donated my state salary to those in need helping to pay for rent & food, but it was never enough & we often asked for help from the Annaverse, soliciting donations online. TY for helping us, help others. Image
4️⃣ As Big Business got tax breaks, everyday ppl drowned in doubt & mounting bills. We’ve been pushing back, requesting relief for unemployed Floridians & small businesses, especially supporting those that were forced to close like our bars and breweries.

People > profits. Image
5️⃣ We started producing live civic education workshops called #EskaSessions, unpacking timely topics like the census, voting rights, and even campaign finance. We also hosted five workshops with guest speakers to inform Floridians on issues from housing to healthcare. Image
6️⃣ Floridians need timely access to their lawmakers!

Our team found creative ways to remain connected while staying safe this year, including the debut of our Central Florida Coronavirus Guide and the launch of our weekly town halls on Facebook and Instagram! Image
High school & college students from around the state (and world) have been building collective power here on Team Anna in virtual arenas & throughout our community. We are honored to help cultivate authentic & effective leaders for years to come — many who aspire to run one day! Image
Black Lives Matter. This summer, we marched with masks on beside thousands of protestors & advocates to demand accountability and changes in policing. We filed legislation to end the school-to-prison pipeline and repeal mandatory minimums. This work continues into 2021 & beyond. Image
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made it our top priority to keep our community safe and model responsible public health behavior, while pushing for more leadership & transparency at the top of FL government; supporting small businesses & unemployed Floridians along the way. Image
Our advocacy does not end on party lines and it goes far beyond Orlando. When we convened in Tallahassee for the 2020 Legislative Session, we brought your values w/us because Floridians demand good governance and bold politics — not more of the same. 💪🏽 Image
1️⃣1️⃣ Team Anna always stands with survivors. From helping to pass #DonnasLaw to holding FCADV accountable, supporting local human trafficking organizations & serving as the keynote for @FCASV. Nothing slows down our efforts for systematic change and equity. Image
1️⃣2️⃣ We championed environmental protection! We were vocal supporters of a local charter amendment to protect Split Oak Forest, which passed by 86%. We refiled our 100% renewable energy bill, held the PSC accountable & supported water advocates from the Everglades to our springs! Image
1️⃣3️⃣ This year we teamed up w/@HamillHimself to defeat the Dark Side with a virtual phone banking event to help @JoeBiden win!

With more than 400 people in attendance, this online action helped us #GOTV in November. The Force was definitely strong with us! Image
We attended Come Out With Pride 2020 to show our support for the LGBTQ+ community & #PrideToThePolls! We fought for the rights of our LGBTQ+ constituents thru out the year, sponsoring legislation to ban discrimination & raised $ for our local LGBTQ+ mutual aid fund, too. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Image
We joined the crowd of happy Floridians as we gathered [safely] in Downtown Orlando to celebrate the victory of President Elect @JoeBiden and VP Elect @KamalaHarris!

Our work is far from over, buta what a happy moment to be part of! 🇺🇸 Image

I want to make sure folks understand the current state of affairs as it pertains to unemployment benefits in Florida. This article offers a good review, and we'll dive deeper into it via this thread. 1/

As we all know, Congress was unable to strike a deal for a 4th major relief package, meaning that FPUC $600 weekly payments expired by July 25, with no renewal plan in place. We all know in Florid how bad this is for us, since our weekly benefit amount is capped at $275. 2/
Over the weekend @realDonaldTrump signed different Executive Orders pertaining to unemployment and other issues. These EOs seem more like political stunts and are potentially not legal.

One of them was to create a $400 weekly payment for the unemployed. 3/

Racism is so deep in American history that it even exists within our taxes. The tax structures we know well today were crafted by white men representing white voters, and was always designed to maintain the status quo not only in its application, but also in implementation. 1/
For example: In 1932 Mississippi adopted the nation’s first modern retail sales tax, a tax that generally falls hardest on those with the least income (because sales taxes consume a larger share of their income). 2/
The state’s governor urged adopting the new tax in part by emphasizing that the revenue would be used to reduce property taxes, & that as a result it would shift the state tax base away from property owners & more heavily onto consumers. Ie, away from property owning white ppl 3/
