NEW: Sen. Brice Wiggins, a powerful Mississippi Republican and former prosecutor says Trump's pardons "smack of cronyism and political favors."

"As such, they erode our faith in the rule of law,” said the Judiciary A chairman, breaking partisan ranks. mississippifreepress.org/7838/republica…
Wiggins’ denunciation of Trump’s pardons is notable; few Mississippi Republicans have criticized Trump or acknowledged President-elect Biden’s victory.

GOP House Rep. Price Wallace even called for Mississippi to "succeed from the union" after Biden won.mississippifreepress.org/7838/republica…
A pardon, Wiggins said, “negates all the work of prosecutors, judges, defense attorneys and juries who’ve worked the case” and should not “be taken lightly.”

He cited former President Clinton and former Gov. Barbour's pardons. mississippifreepress.org/7838/republica…
Sen. Wiggins introduced a bill to require the governor’s office to notify a perpetrator’s victims when a governor issues a pardon.

“I will push it again in #msleg to protect victims,” he said, adding that “taxpayers ARE the victims” of political pardons. mississippifreepress.org/7838/republica…

To you asking, "Why hasn't Sen. @bricewigginsMS 'done more' to check Trump?" I can't speak for him, but to be clear, he's a MISSISSIPPI SENATOR, not a U.S. senator. His role includes serving as a check on the governor & MS officials/agencies—not POTUS.mississippifreepress.org/7838/republica…
It's also at least part of the reason why he didn't join @MittRomney in voting to impeach Trump, since I've seen that comment, too.
Mississippi's U.S. senators are @RogerWicker and @CindyHydeSmith, both of whom voted against convicting Trump during his Senate trial and neither of which has criticized Trump for his pardons (or virtually anything else).
Correction: Mississippi Sen. Brice Wiggins served for an assistant district attorney for seven years, not 15. He also worked as a youth court prosecutor for one year. (Thanks for pointing my error out, @bricewigginsMS). @MSFreePress

PHOTOS: Pibbles with presents.

We wrap Christmas presents for our dogs each year for them to open.

Our pitbulls, Dorothy and Dru, got to open their presents first when we all sat down to open gifts this morning. ImageImage
In true little sister fashion, Dru can't stand for her big sister Dorothy to get something she doesn't have—even if it's the exact same thing.

As Dorothy was opening her gift, Dru realized Dorothy had one and quickly dropped her unopened gift. Image
I held Dru back to allow Dorothy to open hers (see Dru's feet). Image

Are any legit news outlets or sources reporting that alleged Mitch McConnell comment about how "they shall have no victories?" Is there an audio recording? DM me info if you have more, or even email ashton@mississippifreepress.org.
(I have no info that says whether it's real or not. But I'd like to find out).
Update: It's parody (but bad parody bc it's too realistic).

Listening to Christmas albums on vinyl as @wspittman wrap gifts and get ready for Christmas morning.

First up: @celinedion's "These Are Special Times." #Christmas
The first song on this album is O Holy Night, and it's my favorite versions of one of my favorite #Christmas albums.

O Holy Night is an abolitionist Christmas song (written by Adolphe Adam in 1847, translated to English by unitarian John Sullivan Dwight).
Many singers (like Mariah) omit the abolitionist verse. Céline keeps it:

🎶 Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother
And in His name, all oppression shall cease 🎶

Meanwhile, Trump pardoned:

-a police officer who set her dog on an unarmed, homeless Hispanic man

-four Blackwater contractors who massacred unarmed Iraqi civilians, including 9-year-old Ali Kinani
Alvin Kennard, now free, was 22 when sentenced to LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE for STEALING $50 FROM A BAKERY.

He is almost 60 years old now. He stole $50, so America stole his 20s, 30s, 40s and most of his 50s.

Ravi Zacharias after gay marriage ruling decried "mockery of the Christian worldview."

"It's vacuous to say that if 2 people love each other they may express it any way they choose."

Women at his massage parlor say he masturbated & touched them during treatments over 5 years.
"The three women knew Zacharias as the owner and a client as well as a Christian leader and famous author. Some of his books were sold in the store, and the employees read them so they could talk about them when he came in." christianitytoday.com/news/2020/sept…
"But over time, in the small private treatment rooms, Zacharias would make unwanted sexual advances, the three women each said independently. At first, they tried to ignore it, too embarrassed to call out a famous Christian minister."

NEW: Mississippi hospitals are resorting to "extreme measures" like cramming two people into single-person ICU rooms as critical #COVID19 patients keep pouring into already-full ICUs.

"We’re doubling up on ICU rooms, which we’ve never done before."
mississippifreepress.org/7746/we-have-i…
“We’ve actually had to institute a plan where hospitals had to admit patients whether they had room or not,” Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said. “They just have to find a place for them."
mississippifreepress.org/7746/we-have-i…
"We’ve had people die in rural areas, sadly, because they did not have access to referrals for critical care," said Dr. Dobbs. "We've just had to basically put the pressure on our health partners to make sure they take care of everybody as best they can.”
