dear DID/OSDD, system, and/or plural community, we need to talk about race.

sincerely, an angry and tired system of color (meaning, we have a non-white body).

#pluralgang #dissociatwt
disclaimer 1:
much of this tweet is going to be directly addressed to white systems (meaning systems with a white body—we are not going to clarify this any more).
while we are aware that BIPOC can be racist against other BIPOC, we see the behaviors we are addressing most...
...frequently in white systems. this does not mean we are exempting fellow SOC from checking their behaviors.

(SOC=system(s) of color)
disclaimer 2:
much of this may sound aggressive. however, keep in mind that we have addressed this issue many times across different spaces yet new clownary keep appearing. we are tired.
if these talks about race makes you uncomfortable, please check yourselves.
disclaimer 3:
we are asian. thus, we are going to use asians for many of our examples. many non-asian BIPOC may share similar sentiments regarding this issue, but this may vary from group to group, system to system.
dear white systems,

we need you all to be aware that words like asian/yellow, black, etc. describe ethnicity and/or our physical qualities, particularly skin color, but they also contain **so much more than that,**
often such as our connections to cultural and spiritual practices, history, roots, oppression & pain, and joy & pride. our feelings connected to these can be intense and personal.

often more than not, these are only experiences people of that race/ethnicity can claim.
to illustrate, asian people’s reaction towards the history of their culture is going to be different than the reaction of white people who grew up in the western world. non-asian people can be fascinated by asian culture, but it is not their culture. for us, tho, this is **ours**
by calling your headmate with a darker and/or yellower skin tone than the body “POC, “asian,” etc., you are equating your/their physical trait to a group of people who have cultural and historical ties to the term.

you are deducing our ties to a mere physical qualification.
second, let’s talk exomemories.

exomemories are real and valid. they can feel really realistic, emotional, and often traumatic to the headmate experiencing it.

**however**, exomemories are different from body/external memories. this is an important distinction to recognize...
...especially in a sensitive situation like this.

this does not mean that exomemories are lesser than or not as valid as external memories.

**but**, if you have not experienced racism and colorism against people of a a particular skin color, your brain needs...
...to fill in the gaps. the brain’s result is going to be impacted by its imagination and your preexisting stereotype, prejudice, and racism.

no matter where the source of your knowledge comes from, if you did not experience something “externally” for lack of a better word,
you do not truly understand what being BIPOC feels like.

you can affirm the existence and impact of exomemories while acknowledging its difference from external memories in regards to race. they are not the same and should not be treated the same way.
in our opinion, coming up with fancy adjectives is not going to erase the fact that words like “POC” and “asian” covers sentiments and nuisances only those with physical darker skin than white & lived experience can claim and understand.
many white people do not have a complex enough understanding of race to understand the nuances of these labels.

listen to BIPOC. always include BIPOC in you conversation circles, but especially while coining new terms relating to race.
i’m glad people are starting to realize some terms are problematic, but i’m so fucking angry that this only happened now and not sooner. i’m angry to see a bunch of white skinned system discussing if these new adjectives is okay amongst themselves without BIPOCs present.
discussions are welcome, but any comments that are racist or otherwise bigoted, mocking, disrespectful, etc., the senders will be blocked & no notice will be given. i am not obligated to respond or explain to comments like this.

otherwise we’re friendly :)
