Maybe you’ve felt to give up on something that would expand your soul, something you really suspected may be the Lord’s will for you, by thinking “Well, I knew I could never live up to that.” But God knows who you are. He knows all that you’re capable of doing and becoming.
So if you falter in your thinking, you didn’t “know” you couldn’t do it—you *decided* you couldn’t. You decided not to rise & press on. You decided not to be who he knows you can be. You decided to take the easier, less demanding, more presently agreeable path...
...Instead of the harder, scarier adventure that would demand you lean on him, trust him & exercise faith in him—understanding that of course you aren’t enough, but he is more than enough for the whole universe.
It is his infinite capability & not yours that renders your every effort a success (for even the failed attempts build you stronger).
The fishermen were as deeply flawed as any other human before them, but they came to him. They were about to make many mistakes, but they came to him. They recognized him without understanding how or why, so they came to him.
Not once did their own capability play into that decision. It was Christ’s power, not their own, that called them to the work. The glory which would spread his message throughout the world was not IN them, but THROUGH them.
What he intends for you to do, the gifts given you that he will employ to do his work upon the earth, the glory which he will spread—is not of you, but through you. Noah, Nephi, & the Brother of Jared were not ship builders, but the Lord showed them how, and they did.
Moses was not an orator, but the Lord knew what he wld need to say & do to convince Pharaoh to release Israel, & it happened. A young shepherd boy named David was told by the Lord to advance before a Philistine army & slay a GIANT with a SLINGSHOT. And lo & behold, he did it.
In the coming year, there will be goals presented to you that you feel woefully unqualified to achieve. But you will, because it’s the Lord’s work, not yours, and he will do it. He knows who you are, beginning to end.
He sees the past, present, and future, and you see but a pitiful distance in front of your feet. You will trust him because no one is righter, better, more loving, or more determined to see you succeed than he is.
If you’re telling yourself, “I can’t live up to this,” know that you were never meant to, not by yourself. You were meant to come to earth, be pushed just beyond your capability, and become compelled to trust in the Lord. It is he, not you, who can live up to your challenges.
Ofttimes you can’t do it, yet you will, because of his grace. So when you think to measure your own capability, just you try to measure his. He can do all things. It is through you, not in you. Stand down from self-judgment. Stand up & he will make you capable. #HearHim #NewYear
