The outgoing single term president, who lost to Joe Biden in November according to the Electoral College and popular vote, also, technically, lost his fight with the House yesterday when they voted to override his veto.

From the floor, @senatemajldr McConnell says the Senate will set up a final vote for tomorrow (Wednesday) to override Trump's veto of NDAA. @CourthouseNews
McConnell wasnt exactly throwing support behind the $2k. But he did talk up Trump's wishlist, i.e. weighing Section 230 repeal and investigating election fraud.
Schumer says the House passed CASH Act bill is the only way to handle this.
Now @BernieSanders is up, objecting to Mitch's delay.
It is time for the Senate to step up to the plate and do what the working families of this country overwhelmingly want us to do. - @BernieSanders
"We have more income & wealth inequality than any time since the 1920s and in the midst of this pandemic, inequality has grown worse with many in the billionaire class seeing their wealth increase by 100s of billions while average Americans struggle to put food on the table."
The GOP has blocked Democrats' unanimous consent request to pass $2k direct payment checks to Americans.
WASHINGTON (CN) — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused Tuesday to schedule a vote on the House-passed bill that would increase the Covid-19 stimulus checks for Americans from $600 to $2,000. courthousenews.com/republicans-dr… @CourthouseNews

The Senate voted 80-12 to begin *debate* on overriding President Trump's veto of the $740B defense spending bill and they will begin that process tomorrow. @CourthouseNews
Today: The Senate is back in session @ 3PM ET, not long after we will see a vote for debate to start on the NDAA veto override. A Senate bill bunching $2k checks/Trump's election fraud cmte/Section 230 repeal also expected there PLUS the House's CASH Act (clean $2k checks bill)
Timing on action for the Senate combo legislation or the already passed House bill still TBA. @CourthouseNews
You know the drill by now, I take it - @JackRodgersCNS and I will have the coverage for you!
There are actually some really hard-working good people on Capitol Hill that you would never know about because they are just doing the work and not tweeting about it.
Once, as a baby reporter, I was lost inside the Cap, and a Very Nice Gentleman, maybe 45, saw me struggling, revealed himself as a leg. aide, and then escorted me all the way out, answered all my stupid q's and then showed me a shortcut. He was in the middle of drafting policy.
If someone interrupts me in the middle of drafting a story and I am on a deadline, whatever you are saying to interrupt me better have to do with my story or one MUCH bigger. Otherwise, I stop for basically nothing. That man had the patience of a literal saint.
Facing a tough race in Georgia, new support from David Perdue who once said "A direct payment, I really oppose that" during the first round of negotiations.

House members are returning to D.C. now and the stage is set in Congress for an override of Trump's veto of the $740B defense spending bill.
Background on Trump's veto here: courthousenews.com/government-shu… @CourthouseNews
House Leader McCarthy has said that he would not go against Trump to override the veto of NDAA. But other high ranking GOPers in the House, like Liz Cheney, have been calling for it.
With today's vote, if the House successfully overrides, then it must go to the Senate next. There, it would take just one senator to delay the process with a series of procedural maneuvers -- ultimately, however, the votes seem to be there in the Senate to shut Trump's veto down.
The unanimous consent request from Dems to vote on increasing direct payments to $2k failed on the House floor because GOP House Leader Kevin McCarthy needs to consent and he does not. @CourthouseNews
.@DebDingell during the presser with Leader Hoyer lets loose and says of outgoing President Trump that he "doesn’t give a damn about people."
"He sowed more fear. He threw kerosene on a fire." @CourthouseNews
"Republicans blocked it, not Democrats," Dingell says of the push to increase stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000. "I’m merely to here to say on Christmas Eve we will come back on Monday."
