The CGI in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film Jurassic Park was so good, it convinced:

• George Lucas to get started on the “Star Wars” prequels
• Stanley Kubrick to invest in making “A.I.”
• Peter Jackson to make “Lord of the Rings”

THAT is trailblazing tech.
Might be the best "Legacy" section in a Wikipedia entry

Mini thread on incredible Jurassic Park facts

1/ Steven Spielberg made $250m from Jurassic Park (merch and box office) -- its the single largest sum any individual has made from one film.
2/ There's an homage to Spielberg's "Jaws"
3/ Incredible foreshadowing:

"Dr Alan Grant (Sam Neill) fashions a functioning seatbelt with only two latches and no latch plate. This foreshadows a later scene where the dinosaurs are suddenly able to breed despite all originally being female."

Amazon’s white label business

Its ~1% of sales and prob not worth the regulatory scrutiny.

Thread 👇👇

1/ The first white label product was the Amazon Basics battery in 2009. Within a few years, it had ⅓ of online battery sales, outselling Duracell and Energizer.
2/ Today, Amazon has 400+ brands under “Our Brands” (some are private label and some are 3rd party exclusives).

By one estimate, these brands collectively bring in ~$1-2B of 2019 revenue (drop in the bucket for total: $280B)

Here are some:
3/ Of these 400+ brands, the top 4 account for 72% of sales (all with "Amazon" in name):

-- Amazon Basics
-- Amazon Collection
-- Amazon Elements
-- Amazon Essentials

Tesla is replacing Aimco in the S&P 500 index next week.

After hours of deep research, I discovered why Aimco ($6B REIT) is getting the boot:

— it’s Twitter account has <2k followers
— I couldn’t find a single meme on the timeline
— it’s CEO doesn’t have a Twitter handle
This is Aimco CEO Terry Considine:

-- Harvard BA / Harvard Law
-- Colorado state Senator
-- Founded Aimco in 1994, owns 124 apartment complexes with ~33k apartments that brought in $900m+
-- Again, ZERO TWITTER HANDLE

Found an insane collection of maps from Reddit.

The best ones 🧵

1/ Each section of this map contains 10% of the world's population. Image
2/ The nearest country to every part of the United States. Image
3/ The longest possible train ride in the world:

"I need you to book me a train from Portugal to Vietnam, but make sure it goes **around** Mongolia."

(travel time = 11,000 miles, 275 hours) Image

Christopher Nolan planted 500 real acres of corn for “Interstellar” instead of using CGI.

After the movie was done, he sold it for a profit LOL!!
It costed $100k and Nolan had to find a place he could grow corn that had "a mountain in the distance"...outside of Calgary! 🇨🇦
Amazingly, he asked Zack Snyder for advice...who also grew corn for "Man of Steel"

Awesome story of how Jason Kilar — CEO of WarnerMedia and founder of Hulu — got a his first real job (at Disney):

• wrote 70 unanswered letters in his junior year
• drew this comic that finally got their attention 👇
I read about the story but couldn’t find the comic.

So I @ Jason and he replied.

(I love Twitter)
Also a great story...how Jason got a job at Amazon in the mid-90s.

Met Bezos, who came to speak at a Harvard Business School class (while Amazon was still small):
