We’re gonna get four years minimum of Republicans pretending to be small govt libertarians and the mainstream press is gonna eat it up like pigs at the trough.
Meanwhile the Dems will waste too much time and effort trying to work with them and Lucy just keeps pulling that football away.

I started following all of this in earnest 20 years ago. The dynamics have largely stayed the same with just a few name changes with the players. I wish to God things would recalibrate for once, but I am not optimistic.
One of the biggest problems with the dynamic are democratic supporters who instantly get their backs up. I can’t understand it. What the party keeps doing doesn’t work, and “the republicans are worse” is an inadequate counter argument.
There’s a lot of bad faith, unrealistic leftist critique out there but I don’t know how you look at the last 40 years and conclude everything is going great. If anything the overwhelming electoral victories from democrats are even further proof somethings off.
Republicans have been able to remake huge portions of America while winning on technicalities. Democrats have done big things too but the disparity is way off when u compare electoral success.
The thing is the Democrats have to try and with all the media/gop headwinds there is a strong *internal* opposition to trying. That’s a gigantic problem. “We can’t try important things because that gives Republicans ammo to win” is actually the best ammo for Republicans!
In my personal opinion, there’s an entire slate of really popular stuff democrats can do. Even without winning the senate. They just need the will to do them. They will get more upside from trying and failing than the “safe” path of just not trying.
But to do it they have to get past party leadership, who doesn’t want to do much, and the base voters of the party, who constantly convince themselves that anything remotely progressive will set off Fox and magically put Republicans in control.
I don’t actually think much of that will happen but it would be good if it did.
