slowly making my way through "team of rivals" and its funny to hear about the gop primary for 1860 where seward thought he had it all wrapped up and lincoln came in as a dark horse with his supporters offering up (basically) bribes for support.
nothing has changed!
you even have people with moderate, liberal conservative positions on slavery, which is gross but it shows *nothing has changed*
"im against slavery but not for full citizenship for blacks" was some triangulation ancestry
its just funny to read this stuff w a 2020 lens and get to roll my eyes at the people who insist there was some long ago moment when american politics was pure.
the 1860 version of a bernie bro was definitely a lincoln lad

i predict that jenna ellis will be fine. nothing bad ever truly happens to these idiots. it sucks but thats the truth. the only ones who really disappear are like milo, who got deplatformed. but otherwise theyll be fine.
this year we'll probably see people like kellyanne and mcenany sign up for tv and book deals. they'll be cnn employees and on the book circuit. this idea that theyll be pariahs is total fantasy, unfortunately.
this is the kind of thing that gets me labeled an "eeyore" but its literally just what happens. if things change, that's great. but the odds are very against things being different.
watching leftists do the most predictable thing ever with their infighting it explains why the center-left of the democratic party, for all its faults, has been the wing that wins national elections. that stuff is exhausting! and mostly useless.
imagine you're a regular person and not a political obsessive like most of us on here, and you have generally left-wing views, and these guys over the last year have told you that people like aoc and elizabeth warren are moderate sellouts. insane. lol.
this is, generally speaking, a universe of people who cannot see the very obvious appeal of a politician like president obama, who is not without fault but yet was amazingly electorally successful in part due to avoiding this craziness.
has the ny times *ever* reviewed or written about a superhero graphic novel/trade? considering theyre like 90% of the market vs the indie/nonsuperhero stuff the times always covers, its kinda funny.
youll see like batman and avengers topping the sales chart and the times would have you think the hottest thing in comics is the latest thing in the maus tradition. wonder if theyll ignore dc's new ya graphic novels, which i think will be huge?
i dont have anything against non-superhero comics. i like some of them. its just very snobby imo the way they still try to ghetto-ize superheroes, which have become our dominant art theme in the last 15 yrs.
If Dems operated like Republicans, every Dem would have been hollering right now about how Mitch stole your $2000. But the Dems don’t operate like that. For some reason.
I keep trying to ignore this deficiency because I know they’ll never address it, but I can’t keep my mouth shut when I see such an easily remedied major error that hurts so many people
The media and the Republicans are a real issue, but if democrats never speak up on these things it’s hard to say the fault lies elsewhere
We’re gonna get four years minimum of Republicans pretending to be small govt libertarians and the mainstream press is gonna eat it up like pigs at the trough.
Meanwhile the Dems will waste too much time and effort trying to work with them and Lucy just keeps pulling that football away.
i love when i take him on an extra-long walk and we come back and he's totally exhausted. its like he's saying, "MY BODY IS EXHAUST, I MUST CURL UP INTO A TINY BALL AND REPLENISH THEEE ENERGY, WHY YOU DO DIS?"
its not your imagination, i take *a lot* of pictures of kal-el
but when you see this mug just casually lying about the house... how could you not?
