I was thinking this week how mad and sad it is how much the comedy industry in this country let black people down man.
Generations of crazy talented black comics were ignored in this country by the media and broadcasters.
Lenny Henry, Desmond’s, The Real McCoy... then nothing.
The US with all its many issues and problems, at least produces films and shows with and for black people and they’re amongst the best tv and film they have!
It makes the issue of white comics blacking up even more stark. Rah the only black faces in tv comedy for 25yrs was that?
A whole generation were ignored for the panel shows, Live at the Apollo, comedy acting work... let alone their own projects.
It’s fuckin shameful, to be honest.
Last 5yrs seem to be getting better, but there is still SUCH a long way to go.
I will be (financially) worse off under a Labour Government.
But I’m happy to make that ‘sacrifice’ for the #LabourManifesto because:
My hometown and others like it across our wonderful country have been ravaged by austerity. How can I be content with a few more quid, but see continued decay and misery wherever I travel across the land?
Labour will use the extra tax revenue to improve public services. Brilliant.
• better education services for my nieces and nephs;
• better health care for anyone who gets sick in my family;
• better social care services for my mum and older aunts/uncles and disabled relatives;
