A brief thread on Jovan Hutton Pulitzer, the crazy con man who is now claiming to have hacked into the Georgia voting machines in Fulton County. 90s kids and tech aficionados might remember Jovan as the inventor of the CueCat, the dumbest gadget of all time.
Also, for anyone who wants to claim that Jovan Hutton Pulitzer (not his given name, but one he changed legally after the CueCat debacle) invented QR Codes: he did not. Like that other right-wing crazy man who claimed to have invented email, Jovan didn’t invent QR Codes.
He did invent the CueCat, a product that somehow raised $185 million dollars for a tethered barcode scanner for magazines and newspapers, so you could get ads from your ads. As I said, the dumbest product of all time. Good backup barcode scanners after they were hacked, however
Oh, that’s another thing. When CueCat was a thing, its systems were hacked. I guess that’s what makes Jovan a security expert. His bankrupt company from 20 years ago was hacked and widely mocked. He’s a genius.
In recent years, Jovan pivoted to being a treasure hunter who was featured on and widely mocked on Curse of Oak Island, because the man is insane. dallasnews.com/arts-entertain…
Anyway, THIS is the man who Rudy and the gang are claiming is a tech and security expert at these Georgia hearings. Someone @Gizmodo or @verge needs to blog this because this is hilarious. Cc @reckless.
Hi LinkedIn wants you to know that he’s taken free online classes at Harvard and Stanford. Also, I found an interview with him where he blames Mark Cuban being mean about CueCat for his wife divorcing him. He also made some insane claims about @waltmossberg that I won’t dignify.
But seriously, this is the guy who is Rudy's tech expert. This is how officially hilarious. Someone please blog this.
Ok, I really didn’t want to include anything from this person but this video is just too funny not to include. Also, he says he can audit 500,000 votes in two hours. Ludicrous.

This from @gruber describing @_DavidSmith's @WidgetsmithApp success/immediate knock-offs with impunity encapsulates my biggest problem with the current App Store policies/arguments. daringfireball.net/2020/09/widget…
Look, for some developers/publishers, a 30% cut of revenue will never be something they want to pay, and I get that — but the value of that 30% cut and the effort needed to stay within the opaque rules and guidelines disappears the second stuff like this happens.
It’s disingenuous to argue with a straight face that the array of rules — and the size of the revenue cut — is required because of a curated and human overseen experience if that experience is bad for users and actively harmful to developers.

Tag yourself. I’m “wait we had homework” or leaving someone on read. Image
I’m still mad I got a C in Gifted Algebra II in 9th grade b/c I refused to do my homework. I got As on every test and quiz but homework was like 15% or some shit and the ceiling for C was 82 and not 80 (changed a few months later). Such BS.
The teacher had the temerity to ask me to be on the math team because I was so good at math and I was like “you just gave me the first C I have ever had in my life. No!”

In 2005, CSPAN aired a compilation of RBG's confirmation hearing during the Robert's confirmation hearings and then again during the Harriet Mier's blowup. I was in college but was enraptured. I missed class more than once to watch hours of old footage c-span.org/video/?45747-2…
The entire three days of proceedings are worth watching/listening to, but this ~ 3 hour compilation is masterful. Having been too young to see it in '93, revisiting it in college (when I assumed I’d be going to law school), left an indelible mark. Ij rewatching tonight.
It is perhaps interesting, and notable, that the first exchange in this is of Biden and Ginsburg. Just watch how she answers the question about the framers their intents to craft the Constitution and Bill of Rights as limiting the power of government. Again, masterful.

Also, I know scalping is part of the game, but seeing the #PS5 scalpers all over eBay like this is some Supreme drop instead of Christmas for a bunch of kids makes me irrationally angry.
Again. I get it. I don’t even hate it. It is what it is. But I remember being a kid praying and pleading my mom would be able to be the hero to get me that N64 or TalkBoy or special Batman action figure or Barbie. I am glad I can be the hero aunt this year.
Also, my mom was a BAMF at always securing me the most-wanted Christmas or Birthday gift. I got lucky and found an N64 9 days before Christmas in 1996 (and I paid for it but couldn’t open until Christmas like a chump) but mom found the RF cable and a copy of Mario 64 to rent

Ok, here’s an interesting pickle: my Apple Music and iCloud subscriptions are tied to different Apple IDs. I wonder how Apple One will manage that.
This is going to be a potentially big problem. There are many of us who had iTunes accounts back in the username days that are separate from our iCloud accounts. It’s why Apple lets you sign in with both...
I’m finding stuff from 2011 about promises that a merger would exist. All we got was the ability to log into two different kinds of accounts. The problem goes back to at least 2008 with MobileMe.

Honestly the Xbox Series S is just brilliant. I criticized Sony’s approach of announcing a PS5 with and without disc — because shit or get off the pot — but this strikes me as the better way to do a differentiated console release.
And making the differentiator resolution, in this case 1440p, as opposed to CPU performance, is smart too. Plenty of gamers have invested in 1440p or 1080p monitors and prioritize frame rates over resolution. This makes sense.
Also, I’ll almost certainly also get a PS5 — I just think that this is a much more robust way of offering two different console options at launch.
