Wishing you all a happy new year 2021.

Yes, its Gregorian New Year, not exactly connected with Indian civilization. But, like the Common Era (CE) in history which is only notionally connected to Christianity, the Gregorian Calendar is also not exactly a Christian invention,

but continuation of the ancient Pagan culture with some modifications. This very term "Christian West" which many in India still continue to use has thoroughly lost its significance, as Christianity has crumbled in the West, largely.

Anyway, there is the Pagan tradition of celebrating Winter Solstice around December 21 and the next 10 days, and the Hindu historian friend Jijith calls 31st December as "Indra Divas". He has detailed posts on this in his timeline.

So, if you are a Hindu anchored in Dharma,you don't need to feel shy or guilty for wishing happy new year on this day, as this really is the new year for majority of the people around the world, for all practical reasons. Celebrate it if you like, in whatever way that appeals 2 u

You don't become Chinese or Italian just because you ate at a Chinese or Italian restaurant. Nor will you become less Hindu if you wish HNY.

If the only way that you know of celebrating is by worshipping at the temple, please do so, as any day is a good day for Darshan,

including January 1st. But please do not encourage silly practices like opening Hindu temples at midnight on December 31, as the "birth" of the new year does not have any Hindu religious or spiritual significance in that sense,

and its a violation of the established temple traditions.
