β’ Let's dissect the situation of the best left-back this generation has seen now in 2021 β and where issue lays:

π | Marcelo minutes throughout last 5 seasons:
β’ Gradually seeing his minutes decreased
β’ Halfway through this season and he's played almost half of Mendy.
π | Marcelo numbers:
Not just his minutes have seen a decrease, Marcelo's general creativity has seen a massive dip consistently β through tactical changes and his overall decline in every department.
β | Ferland Mendy is just too good β his output offensively & defensive stability makes Marcelo's weaknesses even more apparent & his game more painful to watch.
π | Defensive numbers of Marcelo v Mendy:
β’ Mendy puts less tackles yet has higher %, intercepts the ball more and clears it β pretty much far more dominant through data and this isn't even a conversation when you apply the eye-test.
π | Offensive/Creative numbers of Marcelo & Mendy:
Brazilians decline becomes even more prominent when Mendy is so much more dominant on areas going forward, through his sheer physical prowess to improvements he's seen, Marcelo has been taken over.
β | Reality is that Marcelo's decline has been physical and technical β Zidane has tried him in multiple roles to fit and it was hardly a pay-off other than few games in between months.
Probably the biggest mistake made from both parties was staying for another season.
β | Marcelo maybe can contribute to Real Madrid's season but after 700+ mins in all comps β it looks very unlikely as Brazilian remains a big weakness to Real Madrid which is consistently exposed.

β | Real Madrid has pulled off a masterpiece with David Alaba.
β¬40M spent across 4 years on a Champions League player who is physically & technically excellent at just 28 years of age β arguably his peak in both ends.

β | Financial state:
Real Madrid approved a deficit of 68 millions for 2020/2021, this measure represents around β¬42M of savings and there are β¬26M left for the club not to record any losses β per @jfelixdiaz article breaking down the situation.
β’ Both of them are currently out of reach for Real Madrid, and per explanation they'd cost way more than Madrid can afford β even if club were to accept losses for a year including everything (wages, fee, bonuses, etc). Not possible.
I just like most have had the roughest year of my life, from physical struggles to the mental toll the situation created took β having to deal with a lot of things going on.
I've had cancer scare throughout the year, had multiple tests done on me to find out what my physical problems were β thankfully didn't turn out that way & one of main reasons of my struggles were lack of exercise & physical work β Don't NEGLECT your body.
From that, I had to see a therapist due to all the stress caused from Covid and everything going on in between, health and financial related issues β but I am lucky enough to have supportive people around me.
