one of the most annoying things about the democratic party - not worst, just most annoying - is that all their reasoning for not doing good things is endless semantics and pedantry which means, like a magnet, they naturally attract the most pedantic people on earth
this tweet is also a trap for anybody with the pedantry to go "wouldn't a magnet attract opposites-"
anyway its been very cool to watch people sincerely go "kamala didn't vote against $2000 checks, she just voted to override the NDAA filibuster, which gave away all dem leverage on $2000 checks"
you'd think the fact that even warren voted to not override the filibuster would've introduced some "hey, wait a minute-" in their brain but no

lol cool to see ttrpg also follows "you're not allowed to criticize if you don't make it, and if you make it, you're not allowed to criticize your peers, because that's unprofessional"
so many rules for shit that's nothing but "it punctures our egos but saying it like that makes us seem petty, cuz it is"
what's really funny honestly is seeing these same rules follow into criticism itself. usually games criticism, but it gets around everywhere. the twin pincers of "you don't work here, so you can't crit" and "you work here, so critting is unseemly"
caught up with the entire saga of bean dad and now people going into defensive and rationalization mode and y'know this kind of intense dragging probably wouldn't come out so much if more restrained, private discussions with offenders actually produced results
"do people have to go this hard-" not have to but ime a lot more people than you'd like are going to go "i thank you for your input and will now keep doing the exact same thing" right up until introducing actual consequences and THEN apologies come out
it's not that everyone wants this to be the go to method, necessarily, it's that people have good reason to distrust the effectiveness of approaching gently and politely
there's one day left on the GOG winter sale and two on the steam sale; if you're looking for any last minute pickups, i've got several dozen recommendations here, both new and old, of some goodies you might not have heard of before
this also a good reminder to me to get back to work on the twine/website version of my rec threads, so this is easier to collect together + i can rec abandonware and the like
i will admit one of my favorite little joys of doing these threads is getting my + older gens who played a ton of point and click adventures pointed to where they can buy those now and what new games have come out since, and exposing younger gens to the greats in the genre
seeing the usual talk about russia and libs having to be reminded that we did coups making me think also about how we always do coups in the most impatient manner possible because even when it comes to toppling governments americans are incredibly impatient
it's something i hit upon chatting with someone before about how america is constantly doing coups in south america, often in the same countries repeatedly, because we don't have the patience to 'boil the frog' and slowly hollow out state services. we just want it done in a week
"we could slowly install our own people and dismantle their government, leaving only enough intact for people to prefer status quo to revolution"
"that sounds long, hard, and boring. let's throw a bunch of people and guns at it for a month. this'll never backfire"
