1. Much the Founders put into the Constitution to prevent Trump/deal w him was left unused by us.

Most notable/imp though was the Electoral College itself. If we'd been able to import the FFs to witness 2016, they'd have been yelling "use the EC to blackball his presidency!"
2. Literally, the process we're watching play out right now, the very process that Trump is trying to illegally subvert & corrupt to hold onto power, that process is the process the FFs put in place in case the public did something NUTS that elites needed to overrule. And you
3. don't get any more nuts than giving the prez to a guy like Donald Trump! A guy who could never pass your own govn't's classified clearance processes (hell, this dude couldn't pass many company's employment background processes). A guy who can't be trusted w classified info
4. bc he'll disclose it, both accidentally & nefariously to allies and to foes. So they put a safety valve into the system. A just in case option. An override. Using it was obviously going to be controvertible, But they would have been universally disappointed that it wasn't
5. deployed to save this country, to protect this country's security from this exact type of inner betrayal in 2016. And now we all know the cost of that failure.

1. Watching @SteveKornacki at the big board, famous "blazing khakis"in full form, was for me, as it was for millions of others, a lifeline the long night-into-day of the election.

1. Yes, as @JoeNBC is pointing out- its not Donald Trump that is bringing America to her knees, its the rest of the Republican Party. Without them, he's nothing. Without them, there is no coup, no constitutional collapse, no end to democratic elections.

They alone have the power
