In India, the criteria for expiration of #copyright is 60 years since the death of the author, and that the work was published before their death. This year, books of authors who passed away in 1960 are coming into the public domain.

Sripada Krishnamurty Sastry was the first poet laureate of Andhra Pradesh. #Telugu #Teluguwriters #publicdomain2021
A Chakravarti translated the #Tamil classic #Tirukkural into English. #publicdomain2021
#Feministwriter and firebrand, Kothainayaki Ammal, was the first female author of detective fiction in those times. #Tamilwriters
Navaratna Rama Rao was not just a writer but was also responsible for establishing the silk Industry in Mysore and the Central Silk Board of India. #Kannada #Indianwriters
Many writers of the time were freedom fighters. Take #Bengali writer Parashuram and Bal Krishna Sharma Naveen, who wrote in #Hindi.
The 1961 #YashChopra movie #Dharmputra was adapted from a book of the same name by Hindi writer Acharya Chatursen Shastri.
Kesari Balakrishna Pillai was a literary critic and C.J Thomas a pioneer of modernist theatre. #Malayalam #Malayalamwriters
We also have Jigar Moradabadi on the #publicdomain list- He was an #Urdu poet, #ghazal writer, and mentor to the famous lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri
