There seems to be a lot of confusion about who has the power to do what when it comes to the results of a Presidential election. There’s so much misinformation flying around and people freaking out about the GOP’s seditious plans for tomorrow, it’s nuts. Allow me to clarify:
The GOP’s pitiful, futile, and embarrassingly (not to mention criminally) treasonous plot to publicly perjure their oaths by objecting to the certification of @JoeBiden as the next President of the United States has absolutely ZERO chance of changing the outcome of the election.
The Constitution clearly limits the role of Congress re: presidential elections to the counting of electoral votes certified by the states. The states, consistent with federalism and a limited national government, possess the sole authority to determine and submit their electors.
This has already occurred. Electors met on December 14th—after weeks of failed attempts to discredit the results of the election by Trump surrogates; issue false allegations of fraud with no evidence and nearly 5 DOZEN court defeats—and Joe Biden received 306 votes to Trump’s 232
This made @JoeBiden the 46th President and @KamalaHarris the 46th Vice President of the United States. There were no rogue or faithless electors. 270 electoral votes were required to win. @JoeBiden won 36 MORE than that AND trounced Trump by over 7 MILLION in the popular vote.
All that happens tomorrow is the COUNTING of votes that have been submitted. Pence reads what the numbers are and Biden is certified the winner. The #SeditiousGOP objecting to this process (which they have no basis to do) can do nothing but DELAY the certification by 2 hours.
So basically the GOP is planning a public coup that they know has no chance to change the outcome of the election as Dems still control the House and the majority of even senate Republicans aren’t supporting this blatant act of sedition and violation of the Constitution
Why are they doing this? Take your pick of terrible reasons. My best guess is to appease Trump’s base who they know is all that’s left of their dwindling party that the overwhelming majority of Americans rejected because it stands for nothing and is fundamentally anti-American.
Tomorrow will be nothing more than a sad political spectacle from a party that sold its soul & abandoned any principles it ever had; a defenestration of any legitimacy of the GOP; and a solidification of its demise at the hands of a failed reality TV host & serial sexual predator
Now let’s keep our fingers crossed for good news from GA and stop torturing ourselves over scenarios that can do nothing but further degrade a political party that has dragged itself into the earth’s core in terms of both its integrity and capacity to govern or uphold their oaths

We need to talk about @senatemajldr Mitch McConnell and how he is MURDERING THIS NATION. And we need to talk about it RIGHT NOW. Yesterday he killed the only chance for a nation hanging on by a thread to receive ANY economic relief. HE MUST BE REMOVED FROM HIS POSITION (Thread)
Over his 30+ YEAR tenure in Congress, McConnell has used his power to turn the GOP into a cult of spineless obstructionists who spit on the American people. Who cover up and "acquit" criminal Republican Presidents while launching baseless illegal investigations into Democrats.
Who invent fake "precedents" to block black Presidents from appointing Supreme Court Justices and then revoke them when the table turns. Who pass no bills but pack the courts. Who care about nothing but MAINTAINING POWER AT ANY COST. Well the costs are too damn high, Mitch.
Normalcy bias is killing thousands of Americans. People assume that if restaurants and stores are open it’s safe. That if airports and other forms of mass transit were unsafe, they would be closed. People are operating based on how things SHOULD BE, and we have no hospital beds.
This is what kept people from grasping the severity of Trump’s crimes during the impeachment hearings. This notion of “if what he did was really that bad, they’d remove him.” Now it’s “if things were really that bad, we’d be on lockdown.” Except people are dying by the thousands
Of course people expect things to make sense and that their objective reality will accurately reflect the severity of the danger being posed to them. But that isn’t happening, and it’s only going to get worse as people mistake the vaccine for a cure and declare “COVID IS OVER!”
It is undeniable that the brief filed by these 126 @HouseGOP members meet the criteria for expulsion. While it typically requires the votes of 2/3 of the chamber to expel a member, one could argue that these 126 members are conflicted out of voting on their own expulsion.
In this case, while Democrats only control 233 seats, and the GOP controls 196—the 126 members who signed the brief being excluded from the vote would give Democrats more than a 2/3 majority (233 votes for expulsion vs 70 against would be 76%, which is more than 2/3).
If I were @SpeakerPelosi, I would absolutely use every ounce of power at my disposal to punish the GOP for their traitorous act of sedition, and make this expulsion happen immediately after the 117th Congress is seated. Unfortunatelyc it is unlikely she will do anything like this
Let’s talk about how the 126 @HouseGOP members who signed the treasonous brief to steal the election could actually face consequences in the form of not being seated or otherwise being expelled from Congress (Thread)
Under the U.S. Constitution, Members of Congress may have their services ended prior to the normal expiration of their constitutionally established terms of office by their resignation or death, or by action of the house of Congress in which they belong by way of an “expulsion.”
Article I, Section 5, clause 2, of the Constitution states that a member of Congress may be removed from office before the normal expiration of his or her term by an “expulsion” a formal vote on a resolution agreed to by two-thirds of the members of that body present and voting.
106 @HouseGOP members just publicly announced themselves as traitors to the United States of America by signing onto a brief attempting to steal the 2020 election and hand it to Trump. Let’s make them famous and start organizing to remove every single one of them from Congress.

Today a colleague blew up at me because I said that it’s not possible to be a good person and a Trump supporter. She said “maybe you should keep your political opinions to yourself.” I was like “Um no and I stated a fact, not an opinion. And I’ll say what I want, thanks.”
She made a scene in front of customers, which was embarrassing and unprofessional; then tried to claim the lesson from her outburst was that “politics has no place in the workplace.” Except supporting Trump has nothing to do with politics; it just means you’re a terrible person.
So many people try to gloss over their endorsement of a baby caging mass murdering white supremacist traitor with “we just have different political beliefs.” No, we don’t. Trumpism isn’t a political ideology. If you support him; you lack humanity, character, and decency.
