Thread alert 🧵🚨👇🏽 After Trump won in 2016, the math was clear & I had one guiding mantra: the Republicans could lose the South for a generation. The New South was rising, but many failed to see it and believe it…
Like often happens, pundits and power brokers underestimated women of color, their plans, and people’s power to change their own destiny.
Way to Win made GA a centerpiece of our strategy at our launch in 2018. @staceyabrams, @NikemaWilliams, @nseufot, @JessicaLBYRD @MsLaToshaBrown graced the stage that night & they were emphatic that if we got behind their plan, we would win.
We believed them. We founded @WaytoWinAF on a theory of change that a multiracial coalition anchored in the South and Southwest could build real progressive power & transform the electoral map & our country for decades to come.
We squadded up with @steveptweets and others who had lifted up and invested in Stacey Abrams for many years before she became a household name.
We took the data to DC to the powers that be, imploring them to follow the math & invest in the South and Southwest -- home to the fastest changing demographics in the country -- and they laughed at us.
And here we are. AZ & GA cut Trump’s path to the Supreme Court to challenge Pennsylvania. And, now GA is poised to bring back balance to the Senate. It took work to get here, and @WaytoWinAF was among the first to be all in.
We funded GA before it was cool, along with so many others like @womendonors, @smalls58, @meg_in_decatur, @TamiekaAtkinsGA. We funded organizers in Georgia win or lose, in the on and off cycle, because we knew this day would come.
History is being made tonight. But, let’s be clear: It was a multiracial coalition, led by Black women, who showed up in GA ready to win tonight, and govern tomorrow. These leaders deserve the shine and credit tonight.
And tomorrow, we must continue to follow their lead as a mandate for the bold policy change on which this race was fought -- a $15 minimum wage, immediate and significant pandemic relief, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

Two MSM headlines this week are calling out for a Thread🧵. TL;DR: The shifting 2020 electoral map isn’t weird or an accident, it’s because of a fast-growing young and multiracial majority that, despite its unbelievable power, is often ignored by campaign spending & the story.
First, this: nytimes.com/interactive/20…, could be renamed the Relentless Centering of Whiteness.
This one chart in the NYT article explains why @waytowinaf centered AZ, GA, FL, NC & yes TX which isn’t even listed but would blow away the base-expansion potential Nos., and call into question why IA is even on this list. These are the states that are driving political change.
