It’s annoying hearing people tell us if we dislike Sia’s representation to make our own is so frustrating, besidesnthe fact they are basically only saying that because they want to enjoy our exploitation in peace without the #ActuallyAutistic community speaking out.
The fact of the matter is #ActuallyAutistic people HAVE created their own representation, but nobody pays attention to it, because you trust NTs to tell you about experiences they don’t have than actual ND people.
Also, there aren’t that many #ActuallyAutistic people with big platforms, if any. Nothing the average autistic person puts out will have the same impact as what someone with 3+ million followers, with a shit ton of money.
Unless someone with a platform that is larger or equal to hers wants to create something like this and include ND people in the process, or if an #ActuallyAutistic person builds a build platform before talking about their experiences, it won’t go very far.
You know why? Nobody seems to care about ableism, except for the people it affects. The person you stan casually admits to being ableist, and you pat her on the back and say it’s okay. Do people not see why this is not okay?
So, no. Until you start calling people like Sia out, creating our own representation won’t be enough. That doesn’t mean don’t support #ActuallyAustistic creators, but stop acting like that’s a simple solution.
