Senators Manchin and Capito in a joint appearance here: wvmetronews.com/channel/
"It was horrifying," Capito says.

"It was unfathomable they would come into the Chamber and defile the building."

"I think it was the lowest day."
Manchin: "As Shelley says, it was horrific."
Manchin: "It was a challenging day. It was a horrible day for our country."
Manchin: "It happened by our own citizens."

"The people that stormed the Capitol this time had Confederate flags."
Capito on going back into session last night: "It was important for these insurrectionists to know we will not be intimidated and cowed and bullied."
Capito: "You look at these pictures and think, 'Is that Beirut?' 'Is that Argentina?' No, that's Washington, D.C."
Manchin: "We cannot let a bunch of thugs and hooligans run us out of our Capitol."
Manchin on the president's culpability: "The president invited everyone to come and he kept saying it was going to be a memorable day Jan. j6."
Manchin: "When this happened at our own Capitol, it was as if the president of the United States gave a stamp of approval."

"The president, he's culpable for this."
Manchin says many Trump supporters do not believe this was right.

"A lot of West Virginians feel that strongly about it."
Capito: "The president was convincing people all along that it was stolen."
Capito: "The facts didn't bear that out."

"He was using his power to convince them of a result that was never going to happen, which was to overturn the election and to force us into accepting that, into breaking our Constitutional duties."

"I think the president does own this
Capito: "I did support the president, and I did support the policies and I think the policies were good for West Virginia."

"But this is inexcusable."
Manchin: "I support my good friend Shelley. She stood tall."
Manchin: "There were some West Virginia residents in that crowd. I want them to know they will be prosecuted to the fullest."
Manchin, mentioning WV Delegate Derrick Evans, says a 6-month sentence for trespassing is the minimal penalty
Capito on what now: "I think we did cross the Rubicon yesterday. The violence and violation of our country and the rejection of a peaceful transfer of power is a day that, if I can quote, will live in infamy."
Capito says we "have to figure out a way to join in for the unity of the country."
Manchin says he spoke with President-elect Biden yesterday morning and says he has a golden opportunity to start healing.

Manchin says Biden said, "Republicans are my friends."
Manchin says he thanked Senator Kelly Loeffler last night for backing off challenging the Electoral College count
Manchin concludes: "The Republic is alive and well."
I wish that could have gone on a little longer
here's most of what Capito and Manchin had to say
Congressman Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., now on:

"It was ridiculous. They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
"I’m going to go in with the assumption they were rabid Trump supporters. I don’t care.
"It’s not the way we do things. It’s crazy.
Mooney, who objected to Pennsylvania certification, praises VP Pence for not going along with President Trump's directive yesterday
Mooney on regarding Biden as president-elect: "Of course. Look, he won the Electoral College. It was confirmed last night pretty strongly, and obviously he’s president-elect."

"All we can tell you is if you live in that area shelter in place," Kanawha County Commissioner Kent Carper told MetroNews.
Carper said the explosion and fire involved chlorine and started with a barge, possibly offloading.

"The fire was significant," Carper said. "The explosion was massive. It shook people's houses on both sides of the river."
