@tommy_pane I know there are serious issues, corruption, systemic, political, social... all of it. If you read my posts you would know that. I am no Pollyanna thinking everything is just fine, except those damn Trumpies.
I am aware of the dangers & damages of unrestrained capitalism....
@tommy_pane 2/ again, if you read my other posts, you would know that. Especially global capitalism. Especially re the planet, our society, social good, etc.
But Trump is so much not the answer. He is a corruption beyond what he, or any of his supports, like you, think he would solve.
@tommy_pane 3/ That you cannot see that... that you think some sort of anarchy, or at least sedition like was on display yesterday is ok... No.
Whatever the problems of America are, and they are plenty... they are not solved by this madman, sotted with his power lusting, childs level ego.
@tommy_pane 4/ If you cannot make that distinction... If you cannot see how rudely he treats his "friends". (he has none. only people who he uses) then I question your ability to see anything at all.
Trump is using people by stoking their fears, and givingthem a place to retain their
@tommy_pane 5/ Giving people a place to think they are still superior.
It is sick beyond belief.
I don't blame the people. They are fed a steady diet of bullshit & nonsense...and are being told that every one else is an enemy.
But you should know better.
Or maybe..its all ok with you.
@tommy_pane 7/ You are worried about a corporate takeover?
Now?
Its been ongoing for decades... a century at least.
You think some level of authoritarian rule is going to fix that? That is definitionally facism.
You say, no no, the market will take care of everything.
@tommy_pane 8/ Remarkably , one of the most simplistic and inoperable ideas you propose. But benign. Except you and yours believe that nonsense and completely miss the difference between Commerce and Governance and the need for both, and the need for each to stay in their lane.
@tommy_pane 9/ We went through all that last year or two, no need to recapitulate all that. Just to say power is going to happen regardless of the form it takes. The constitutional values try to have the power reside in the people.
Put it in the market, and you'll have monopolies that
@tommy_pane 10/ will be unconstrained, and unconstrainable.
What Trump has been doing is attacking these underlying values and principle for his own power. IF you cant see that, then again, you are not looking. Or, you don't want to see.
Yesterday could not have been a more clear telling
@tommy_pane 11/ So no. I am not unaware of the problems.
I am quite aware that Trump is an answer that is akin to inviting the devil to heal you.
He may make some moves, but you have made a deal w the devil, and now owns you, and you will pay.
You should be able to see this pattern.
@tommy_pane 12/ It has been in public display from the beginning.
Trump thinks the apparatus of government is for his use and benefit.
His lying is other worldly. And those things his believers belief he will give them are chimeras.
No. The answer is not Trump.
Whatever the problem is.

@tommy_pane@CrisesMimetic@cdsmith80@DominicNeiman@MarlaYouTourist@mtaibbi It is foolish to engage you any more.. We are not in agreement at the foundational levels. Not about liberty.
But the fact, now fully exposed, that you are willing, happy even, to engage violence to gain your "liberty".
You, along w Trump, the leader, and the tribe the
@tommy_pane@CrisesMimetic@cdsmith80@DominicNeiman@MarlaYouTourist@mtaibbi 2/ doers, you are willing to breach the fundamental principle of 'The rule of law', and 'No one is above the law'.
You will cite revolutions of the past, maybe even the American Rev.
And I will laugh that you would equate what is happening now with then.
@tommy_pane@CrisesMimetic@cdsmith80@DominicNeiman@MarlaYouTourist@mtaibbi 3/ The model before us now, and what has always been the underlying issue w Trump, and Trumpism, is not the Am Rev which brought us the ability to even think about such things as Free Speech et al.
But 1930's Germany, and the #Brownshirts and the devotion to the goal of getting
@SamHarrisOrg An entry into the debate of 'free will' and how people develop.
I wonder sometimes if what you see as unconditional outcomes is due in some large part to the underlying conditioning that conscribes one's self.
This image struck me along those lines.
I gather you see this as just another effect in the universal cosmic Cause... An inevitable happening that must be seen as an effect, rather than a 'cause' of its own?
Is every analysis of the context and conditioning of people subject to the trump card of 'yep, that is how it must be given the massive totality of all the forces leading to this moment'.
@TimothyDSnyder Needs to be on every major media explaining what has happened, how it has been being set up for years, the patterns of Authoritarian take over..
And the fact that we are not yet done with this.
It is still hot. Trump remains a force - another pattern.
Looking back, not even 100 years ago, to the last major authoritarian assault. There are patterns. We are in the middle of our version, so we do not have a clear idea if we are at the beginning, the Putsch, or the end, the Bunker.
There are pieces of both.
It depends, largely
on whether we are capable of hearing the clear statements and assessments of our historians like Snyder and Heather Cox. And the journalists, writers, like @anneapplebaum who see things from a larger contextual perspective.
@tommy_pane@Delavegalaw Is is my deep hope, for your sake, you are simply being churlish, or maybe your attempt at being funny, or maybe just sore because what you are devoted to is crumbling.
But I suspect you are none of these.
Which is exceedingly sad.
So now you will be part of those who nurse
@tommy_pane@Delavegalaw 2/ their resentments, muttering, like your iconic leader, "I won... They stole it from me... I won... there is no way I lost..."
In an endless loop.
And while you probably won't be violent you will be in support of those who are, & think it just.
That is your prerogative.
Enjoy
@tommy_pane@Delavegalaw 3/ You and those that call themselves Trump devotees, the ones who finally metastasized into yesterday's attack, & those not there, but who would have been, perhaps wanted to be, but see no problem with what happened..In fact, as you imply, think it exactly what is needed in the
It is a common place to recognize how the world seems to spin faster. In every domain things that once took years, takes months, or days to complete a cycle.
And now in politics.
Trump has run the gamut from gathering power, seemingly invincible to bunker phase in record time.
