THREAD: In a phone call with me today, @SteveDaines recounted the tense moments in the Capitol yesterday, and said it's time for Americans to come together and move forward. He details the evacuation of the Senate and called the images of rioters on the floor heartbreaking.
He told me he doesn't think talks of impeachment are helpful. When asked if he believes President Trump incited the violence, Sen. Daines said there's been dangerous rhetoric from all sides and we need to take the temperature down.
He said he wanted to set the record straight that he never said the election was stolen. I asked about the text message sent by his campaign after the election, and he said that came from the campaign arm and he doesn't always see those things go out.
