#NOW: Ohio @SenSherrodBrown is forcefully denouncing @realDonaldTrump and congressional Republicans for the Capitol insurrection this week. Follow along for details... Image
Brown: “The President incited the attack...(and) must not be allowed to do any more damage, even for the next 12 days.”
Brown: “This summer, peaceful Black protesters were met outside the @WhiteHouse with tear gas, rubber bullets...while this week, white supremacists” faced little or none of that.
Brown: “Do we call for (certain Republican House member/senators) expulsion? It’s clear they plays to this crowd...it’s almost an ominous silence by the President’s party when the President engaged in racist comments and actions.”
Brown: if not the 25th amendment, “I think we should consider impeachment.”
Brown: “I saw some officers taking selfies with rioters...from the top, the leadership in the @CapitolPolice wasn’t ready for...this insurrection.

It was the Defense Dept. and the @WhiteHouse, we hear, that apparently discouraged a stronger use of force at the Capitol.”
Brown: “The @CapitolPolice, the Defense Department, the @NationalGuard and the military police need to be ready” for Inauguration Day on January 20th.
Brown uses this opportunity to say Congress needs to head off these angry events, by working on income inequality, job growth — “It’s a plea to my colleagues to stand up on issues of moral importance, and those are always about race and they’re always about income inequality.”
Brown: “If this were a Black Lives Matter event, there would have been many, many more arrests — there would have been many more people that died.”

Says the “cheering on” by Rudy Giuliani and Donald Trump, Jr. “tells us there’s something about our society we need to fix.”
Ohio @SenSherrodBrown: “I’ve called for the 25th amendment; the more members of the House/Senate do that, perhaps the @VP & cabinet members will meet & make a decision. I don’t lobby cabinet members.

It would be better for the country; it would look less partisan and divided.”
Brown: “Senator @tedcruz, who has blood on his hands, said some percentage of the people still think the election is rigged...we still have to listen to this, *because* people like Ted Cruz continue to say there was fraud — when there wasn’t.”
Brown: “I didn’t like the second George Bush at all...as President, he lied about the Iraq War. But I never would have dreamed of getting in front of cameras and reporters and saying we should invoke the 25th amendment...but this is something we’ve never seen.”
Brown: “@realDonaldTrump, I’m not surprised he wouldn’t show up (to the inauguration). He should show up...but this President who incited a riot is not going to show up to the inauguration, and I’m not surprised at all.”
Brown on impeachment timeline: “It should be done sooner (than next week)...give @VP & cabinet a chance to move forward, but draft articles of impeachment now.”

Says in the 4.5 hours senators were locked in a room together Wed., impeachment wasn’t discussed among GOP members.
Brown: “When the 75 of us were locked in that room...we had discussions on what’s going to happen to our country, how are we going to fix this.

We need Republican senators to stand up and help...by speaking out.”
Brown on Capitol security: “To remove @CapitolPolice leadership is right...we need better police training, as we need for what’s happened w/ killing of innocent Black men around the country...January 20th: @DCPoliceDept, National Guard & military police all need to be engaged.”
As @SenSherrodBrown speaks with reporters, bi-partisan announcement comes down from Washington, D.C.👇
I’ve had to duck out for another interview.

#NOW: I'm on a reporter call with @RepBeatty, a day after the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. She has already tweeted this poll today, asking whether @realDonaldTrump should be removed in various ways, or remain in the job for two more weeks.
Rep. Beatty's thoughts on the matter are clear.
Beatty: "The terrorist attack yesterday, a failed insurrection at the Capitol, was an assault on our democracy and every American."

Ohio @GovMikeDeWine kicks off his Thursday coronavirus briefing with a monologue about the Capitol insurrection on Wednesday
DeWine: “President Trump’s refusal to evade or the election results, without proof...has started a fire that threatens to burn down our democracy.”
DeWine thanked Vice President Mike Pence and the House and Senate for finishing the work of certifying the election results early this morning.

#NEW: as @GovMikeDeWine addresses COVID-19 and extending Ohio’s statewide curfew, he has more than TEN doctors and nurses from all over Ohio lined up to speak on the briefing.

#NOW: @SenSherrodBrown holding a weekly availability with Ohio reporters.
Brown promoting his legislative language as part of the #NDAA (which passed the House) to make it easier to root out the source of money — shell companies — that fund drug operations nationwide.
Brown warning against a presidential veto. @realDonaldTrump has threatened to do so because the #NDAA contains no language to repeal section 230 regarding protections for big social media companies.

#WOW: Ohio House Aging Committee is hearing testimony on a bill to allow family members to be “essential caregivers” for nursing home patients.

Lynn Meldon says she’s seen her 94-year-old mom in her nursing home, for a total of 70 minutes since March.
Lynn says at one point her mother fell down: “How bad is it, that when the nursing home called to tell me...I almost hoped my mom was hurt bad enough, so that I could go visit her in the emergency room?”
Lynn Meldon: “They are slowly dying from isolation, not COVID.”

#BREAKING: @OhioSenateDems confirm the Senate is canceling tomorrow’s session — and at least 9 committee meetings until Wednesday — as a preventative measure against the spread of COVID-19 in the Statehouse.

The House has canceled sessions this week but remains in committees.
#MORE: @OhioSenateGOP confirms the canceled session.

There are no known positive COVID tests among members of the Ohio Senate currently.
This is especially noteworthy because we’re in lame duck session, and GOP majorities in both House and Senate are aiming to fast-track DOZENS of bills into law during these last two weeks — plus, override at least one veto from @GovMikeDeWine on SB311.
