Just like after Charlottesville, Canadians are asking if what happened in Washington DC could happen north of the border. The tragic part is we don’t need to wonder what extremism will look like in Canada.

It’s already here.

Canadian Ranger Corey Hurren was arrested after he drove his truck into the gates of Rideau Hall. On July 2, he allegedly carried 4 firearms & a note addressed to Justin Trudeau.

A look into his social media accounts suggests he’s a follower of QAnon.

The day after the violence in Washington DC, Kevin Michael Hollman of Saskatoon was charged with 2nd-degree murder for allegedly killing his mother.

Social media shows he may have been a QAnon adherent & conspiracy theorist.
Far-right podcast host Adam Blainey recently took to his show’s forums and proudly admitted to being a white supremacist, made dozens of racist and homophobic comments, and went as far as to encourage white Canadians to attack Parliament.

There have also been attempts over the past 2 years by the Canadian patriot movement to “Storm The Hill” in Ottawa. This year there were repeated attempts to organize events that would “begin the battle to #TakeBackCanada.”

They lacked the numbers.

The declaration of a moderate livelihood fishery by a Mi'kmaw community in Nova Scotia resulted in prolonged harassment, violence and multiple criminal acts by groups of non-indigenous fishermen against indigenous bodies, equipment and buildings.

After protesters faced police & court orders to leave an area now known as 1492 Land Back Lane many refused to budge. Fighting for Six Nations treaty rights has, as of Jan. 5, seen 32 people arrested with 16 warrants outstanding.

The Canadian anti-mask movement is dominated by familiar conspiracy theories and individuals from the country’s hate-sphere, including anti-Muslim streamer Kevin Johnson, white nationalist power couple Leigh Stuart & Chris Vanderweide, and more. Image
Brian Ruhe was an early member & organizer of the BC-based No More Lockdowns. He was eventually ousted from the group, though recently appeared on video giving the Nazi salute with other anti-mask attendees in a re-enactment of a Nazi-style book burning.

Both Mothers Against Distancing founder Chris Sky and anti-lockdown member of provincial parliament Randy Hiller made separate appearances on the antisemitic Plaid Army live stream.

In Red Deer, a community anti-racist rally was beset by counterprotesters. There were several instances of violence & tensions were stoked as Pat King told his followers that “truckloads” of people were being brought in to “disrupt the community”

After almost 5 years, the Law Society of Ontario has chosen to take no further action against a lawyer who advertised in the pro-Nazi, Holocaust-denying and misogynist tabloid Your Ward News.
lawtimesnews.com/resources/prof…
The 2016 complaint was filed by CAHN board member Richard Warman. The committee found that the "placement of the ad was not in the public interest & inconsistent with the professionalism standards under the Rules of Professional Conduct," however, no action is being taken.
Lawyer David Faed said he was unaware of the contents of Your Ward News and chose to stop advertising with them in 2017, the same year the courts ordered its editor, James Sears, and publisher, Leroy St. Germaine, to cease publication.

Today is the #StopTheSteal rally in DC, where Proud Boys & other far-right extremists have descended on the capital in an attempt to intimidate officials into reversing the election results

We'll be adding coverage from various sources to this thread throughout the day & evening
Streams show that the crowds have reached the Capitol building. Law enforcement has reinforced their barricades with officers both in and out of riot gear.

Mace is being used at points where protesters are attacking the barriers.

Parts of the crowd continue to try to carry away the metal barricades.

Audible pops that crowd members have called "flash bangs" have been heard as well. Image

As Democrats appear to have flipped Georgia in a run-off election, we move into the much anticipated "Stop The Steal" protests in Washington DC.

Trump supporters from all over are descending on the capital, including the Canadian born Proud Boys.
reuters.com/article/us-usa…
The protests are expected to continue late into the night. Crowds began to gather early in the morning and appear to be continuing to grow in size.
With the bulk of the crowds gathered near the White House for speeches, including Trump himself, workers have been boarding up BLM Plaza ahead of anticipated action later during the day.

New reporting has revealed a former criminal intelligence analyst for the RCMP classified New Brunswick energy protesters as “violent Aboriginal extremists” while also serving as admin on a group for current and former Mounties that included racist remarks
aptnnews.ca/national-news/…
Some of the analyst’s public work focused on anti-fracking protests led by people in Elsipogtog First Nation near Rexton. APTN alleges that while Tim O’Neil was writing reports for RCMP leadership, he was also an admin on the "RCMP Mates" Facebook group
aptnnews.ca/national-news/…
Previous reporting by APTN found that the 12,000 member group hosted racist comments aimed at Indigenous Peoples and other minority groups. O’Neil left after being contacted by the network, but not before advising members to delete posts “even the least bit controversial”
