We don’t have to let them plan the violence right out in the open. That’s not freedom.
“Individual extremists also used Parler to coordinate travel on the ground in order to avoid the police. Per the NYT, others discussed carrying weapons into Congress – which is a felony – and exchanged tips on what tools to use to rip open doors.” splcenter.org/hatewatch/2021…
“Hatewatch was also able to identify Parler users associated with white supremacist accelerationism – an increasingly popular strategy on the extreme right that contends modern society is irredeemable and offers up an apocalyptic race war as its sole savior.”
I know it’s infuriating, but there were people at the Capitol who didn’t know they were at an event organized by hate groups for the purpose of violence.
We can debate the level to which this ignorance was willful, but reducing the reach of these groups means fewer excuses.
It means they can’t hide behind Facebook groups of suburban women drinking wine and claiming they’re just there to peacefully protest and have a ladies weekend. And those women can’t pretend they just stumbled across a group chat of incognito white supremacists who fed them lies.
There’s a reason society is shocked when people say the quiet part out loud. And that’s because the quiet part is what keeps a lot of people in line. It keeps the crowds small.
There’s strength in numbers, and with social media artificially amplifying the message, here we are.
It’s not a solution, and we’ve got a long way to go.
But we’ve been under siege from these groups in these spaces for a while now, and it feels like a weight has finally been lifted from all of us. Just gonna enjoy the peace and quiet for a minute, before getting back to work.

“I found out what they were planning when a friend of mine screenshot me an Instagram story from the Proud Boys saying, ‘We’re breaching the capitol today, guys. I hope y’all ready.’”
“The officers said they were wrong footed, fighting off an invading force that their managers had downplayed, and not prepared them for. They had all been issued gas masks, for example, but management didn’t tell them to bring them in on the day.”
what the actual fuck
“The officer said that many of the widely spread images of smiling marauders, wandering the halls dressed in absurd costumes, had the effect of downplaying how well prepared some of the rioters were to overtake the building, and even to capture and kill Congress members.”
This man has patches bearing the Punisher skull and the thin blue line through the State of Tennessee, so I think the real question is was there a plan to take hostages by a member of Tennessee law enforcement, or just one of their groupies.
