My view is that regardless of what our ignorant @ScottMorrisonMP Govt does Australians are unlikely to be able to buy a new ICE car by 2030. Why? Because Japan, South Korea & many EU countries are likely to stop making them by then.
Currently South Korea and Japan plan to phase out sales of new ICE vehicles by 2035 in their countries. The UK in 2030 and France in 2040, California in 2035. But it's not just what happens in those countries which are big manufacturers but also what happens in their markets.
The EU is one of world's largest mkts. Germany, Italy, UK & France are in the top 10 markets. UK's target is 2030, France 2040. Germany & Italy have not set dates but are likely to this yr. India the 5th market has set 2030. Japan is 3rd & S. Korea 12th. Their date is 2035.
California is the world's 19th largest car market & it will be ICE free for cars by 2035. China is the world's largest market. It hasn't announced plans (except for Hainan which will stop ICE sales in 2030 for many vehicles) but it will almost certainly set at least a 2040 target
12 countries, some large markets, have announced a phase out by 2030. Many of these are not yet legislated they almost certainly will be & other countries will both bring forward or announce targets. So it's likely to be bye bye ICE by 2030 at least for cars. See list below..
Note that in those places with asterisks it's implied that it's not just new cars that will be banned - docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…

@DaveSharma's folly re Trump's deplatforming from Twitter (1) No one has a right to publication on @Twitter or anywhere, otherwise I can demand @smh publish my letters (2) There's no such thing as a right to free speech, it's a privilege curtailed by laws/social standards. Thread
(3) You can't on the one hand advocate for the free market & on the other hand advocate to control it whenever it does something you don't like (4) Less than almost anyone globally his deplatforming does not restrict his freedom to speak - he has the world's media at his disposal
(5) Allowing the abuse and disinformation propagated by Donald Trump and his ilk actually INHIBITS free speech by discouraging others less influential from speaking through fear of the hate speech he encourages
To be clear. There is no such thing as free speech. Firstly speech is constrained by a vast variety of laws. Laws against racism, against incitement to violence, against libel and vilification. Secondly, leaving aside legal restrictions, no one has any right to publication.
You can stand on your soapbox in Hyde Park, or wherever, and say whatever is legally permitted but you have zero right to publication on any platform. A private publisher has a right to refuse to publish anything they want, if they disagree with the content.
People such as @CraigKellyMP, complaining about Twitter bans are either ignorant or hypocrites or both. Apparently ignorant of the laws inhibiting free speech & secondly a total hypocrite in suggesting inhibiting the right private companies to ban illegal comment.
