Free speech has never been fully limitless in the U.S. There are curbs on, for example, shouting fire in a crowded movie theater, hate speech, vulgarity, and incitement to violence.
In the case of these websites, they are operating on private hosting services. In the case of Twitter it is a private business. These firms have free speech of their own and ability to operate their platforms as they see fit.
Now, the question of whether some web infrastructure or social media should be nationalized to prevent a business from being able to make calls like this is a more complex one and not one I see many on the right engaging with.
But even if that happened, speech would be regulated. You can't just say anything on TV air or radio waves, which are regulated federally. Everyone's heard of the "seven dirty words."
Anyway, @ByronYork knows all this I am sure. He's just always been an incredibly disingenuous partisan.
There is a legitimate free speech debate to be had and I won't take sides in it but let's be clear about the terms, the rights of free enterprise, and the actual rules that have been in place.

Congresswoman @mtgreenee's comms guy is suggesting I am "literally lying" for saying she was "bizarrely suggesting" Trump should "remain in office indefinitely." This is a woman who repeatedly falsely disputed the election and posted the hashtag "#AlwaysTrump."
Tonight she *literally* tweeted that Trump "will remain in office." But sure, I am the one who is lying to people @RealNickDyer
Also this comes after a thread where I noted @mtgreenee "promoted a conspiracy theory that Democrats are part of a child murdering pedophile cabal" while "cheerily schmoozing in private" and @RealNickDyer found one comment to take issue with ... and still fell flat on his face
.@mtgreenee, who promotes QAnon and is bizarrely suggesting President Trump should remain in office indefinitely came to Congress' freshman orientation late last year. ...
This congresswoman who has promoted a conspiracy theory that Democrats are part of a child murdering pedophile cabal, was excitedly introducing herself to Dem colleagues behind the scenes. She was jazzed by the orientation. "Isn't this neat?" someone told me she asked.
PTSD is so real. I have experienced it myself. A big part of surviving is getting treatment that helps you be aware of how it affecting you. If you are experiencing trauma following last week's events - or anything else - don't be afraid to seek help.
I haven't shared this often but I will today for anyone it might help. In 2005, I was in an awful car accident. We were hit by a drunk driver and ended up in a multi car pileup. My friend died in the car. My leg was shattered. We were trapped in the car together as he died.
This happened in France and the medical care I got was very good. After waking from a coma and getting out of the ICU, one of the first things the hospital did was send a therapist to my bed. I remember being confused ans wondering why.
Let's talk about the proper terms to describe what happened at the Capitol for a moment. I know this has been contentious and I have put a lot of thought into it ...
It was unquestionably a riot. We know this. There's no question about it. But it was also something much more since there was planning, official participation, and the goal of overturning our democracy.
Some people are adamant about calling this a coup. I get that but I think they are wrong. If you read the definition of coup, it signifies success. In the original French, it quite literally means a blow that was struck. This was a coup attempt it was not a coup.
I am scouring through my photos and videos of the violence at the Capitol on Wednesday. Here are some examples of the weaponry, coordination, and extremism that was on display.
This guy's helmet was festooned with the Comfederate flag.
Here's some QANON paraphenalia outside one of the doors where people were breaking in ...
I really cannot get over how blatantly and frequently @seanmdav@bdomenech and the @FDRLST can be caught in simple, silly lies on this website and they continue without any shame. It's almost ... Orwellian. billmoyers.com/story/orwell-h…
One of the ways you can tell @seanmdav is a shameless propagandist is the fact he doesn't even bother to respond, retort, or pretend he has any self respect when he is caught in a lie.
