We've got a lot weather-wise coming our way into Wednesday. So how about a quick thread with the details to kick off the work week? Rain, Flooding, Landslides, Snow, Wind, & Coastal Hazards - we've got it all! Keep it tuned here throughout the storm! #wawx
Rain is moving onshore this morning & will continue at times thru Weds. Heaviest tonight - Tues AM & again Tues night - Weds AM. Snow levels will rise. This brings about the potential for urban, small stream, & river flooding. The threat for landslides returns as well. #wawx
Speaking of snow levels - warmer air will invade, rising snow levels above the passes Tuesday. But not before the storm drops some snow at pass level! If you have travel plans over the Cascades, give @wsdot a follow and check road conditions at: wsdot.com/traffic/passes #wawx
Gusty winds will accompany two bouts of heavy rain: tonight into Tues AM & again Tues night - Weds AM. The second round looks to be stronger than the first. Strongest winds along the coast & northern inland waters with power outages & tree damage possible! #wawx
Last but not least - King Tides have arrived again. Minor coastal flooding is possible along the coast today & all waters Tues & Weds AM. Add in some large waves & gusty winds at the coast & you have hazardous beach conditions! Never turn your back on the ocean! #wawx
That should about cover it! This midnight shift is headed home to catch some zzz's shortly & will leave you with the day crew! We'll rendezvous again tonight. Enjoy the rain...if that's your thing. /END THREAD #wawx

Well it looks like fall is going to waste no time making its presence known! A weather system will bring widespread rain - heavy in spots - and wind to the area Wednesday with showers continuing through at least Friday! Here's a short thread with the details! #wawx Image
Wondering how much rain we'll see on Wednesday through early Thursday? Take a look at our latest forecast! Additional rain (not depicted here) expected for the end of the week with isolated thunderstorms also a possibility Thursday & Friday. #wawx Image
Along with the rain, Wednesday's system will also bring some gusty winds with it. Highest winds expected along the coast. Localized power outages & tree damage possible as trees still have most of their leaves on! #wawx Image

Convective weather models and smoke: A Thread!

Situations involving the potential for thunderstorms and the backdrop of thick smoke are complicated for a few reasons! The first being that most convective models do not consider smoke in their initialization. #wawx
So you may be looking at the latest HRRR run thinking, it looks like there could be a chance for some t-storm activity to make its way into the area! There is still a chance, but with smoke, you have to interpret the model with a grain of salt so to speak. #wawx
If there was no smoke at all in the area, we would think differently about this set up and what it would mean for thunder in our area. Thick smoke doesn't help thunderstorms develop in most cases. #wawx

Thunderstorms on Sunday produced ominous clouds! We received many reports of a funnel cloud. But video evidence helped us determine that this was nothing more than a scary-looking cloud!
Wondering what the difference is between tornadoes, funnel clouds, and simply scary-looking clouds? Read more here from a former NWS employee!

Many clouds look like a tornado or funnel cloud but can easily fool you! Most scary-looking clouds are located at the bottom of storm clouds. Due to hills and trees blocking your field of view, they may even appear to touch the ground!

THREAD: What does the rest of the day look like for us here in Western Washington? The following tweets will give you a look into our current forecast thoughts. #wawx
Well this morning's storms have worked over the atmosphere here a bit. It still appears the best ingredients for strong to severe storms remains east of the Cascades this afternoon and evening. (Follow our neighbors @NWSSpokane @NWSPendleton @NWSPortland too) #wawx
But there may be just enough "juice" to support another round of thunderstorms here, likely along the Cascade crest and adjacent western foothills this afternoon and evening. Potentially spreading into the lowlands east of the Sound. #wawx

Good morning, Western Washington! It's shaping up to be fairly active in terms of weather, so here's a tweet thread to get your day started. Here are some of the things we've been thinking about while putting the forecast together
🌧️Rain 🍃Winds 🌩️Thunderstorms

#wawx
A check of the radar this morning at 6 AM shows plenty of rain starting to fill in to our south and west.
It'll be a fairly wet day, with up to a half-inch up and down the I-5 corridor, and higher amounts on the Olympic Peninsula and in the Cascades. Snow levels are high today, well above the Cascade passes. They'll lower overnight, though. #wawx Image
