Children are hungry. ALL THE TIME. From the days of constant breastfeeding demands which can drive you literally mad and make you feel almost claustrophobic by it, to when they start eating solids and from then on your weekly food budget doubles.
My two can't go half an hour without asking for snacks or raiding the fridge. And usually it's not because they're looking for crisps or biscuits. They're more than happy to satisfy their hunger with a piece of fruit or toast or some yoghurt. But it is constant.
Since the pandemic, between trying to coax them to do schoolwork, all I do is prepare food & clear plates away. They get tired, cranky & lethargic if they don't eat. My daughter used to wake in the night asking for food and she couldn't go back to sleep without eating something.
Mine are 7 and 4 and their little bodies are constantly growing and strengthening and their minds are sharpening, and that couldn't happen without food. They are lucky that they have never gone without plenty of nutritious food but thousands of kids out there do.
And more often than not, their parents will have done everthing they can to provide for them, but when they can't, surely, it is down to the Governement to step in and help. Without question.
If, and I'm careful to highlight that these are allegations currently, but if a contractor has been given a set amount to spend per head on free meals for kids and they've palmed them off with as little of the cheapest produce they can find before pocketing a nice profit, then
they should face the full force of the law and the UK Government should be held accountable for failing to quality check contractors' work and never be allowed to recover from it. But we all know that won't happen.

As someone who worked in PR for over 16 years and wrote numerous reactive statements for clients, let me tell you why this statement by Chartwells, the free school meals bag/"hamper" supplier, is absolute trash.
Whether you're in the right or wrong, you do not open a statement which addresses an incredibly sensitive issue, involving vulnerable children, and which has the public's support and gained national attention, like this. You're basically saying, brace yourselves for our rebuttal.
This involves children. You open by acknowledging the desperate situation so many families are in right now and how anything that might hinder the wellbeing of these families further really isn't acceptable.
What follows is an attempt at bringing key works, commentaries, resources together in one place with a focus on Wales and its troubling past in regards to racism. I also wanted to share links to community groups and organisations who'd benefit from our support. #BlackLivesMatter
Here's @efalois’ list of Welsh people, events which we should familiarise ourselves with in relation to black history & racism in Wales.

IT HAS BEEN UP SINCE YESTERDAY AND SHOULD HAVE HAD MORE SHARES!
