"Too many in the media bottled it. At some point we have to own this. Donald Trump and his mob succeeded in getting this far because we, the media, failed. We failed you."

I have been waiting four long years to say this. It's important.

Pls watch/share:
"Many of us in the media have rightly been rightly slamming Republicans..for enabling the worst excesses of Trump. What we haven't done is taken a long hard look at ourselves, our own role in enabling him."

My mini-rant on the #mediafail of the Trump era:
"The sad reality is that a lot of black and brown voices in the media...we were calling out Trump long before others...and without much support from our peers...the U.S. media has been too white, for too long."

My mini-rant on the @MehdiHasanShow tonight:
"If you work in the media and only now is the moment you're truly shocked by Trump or by Trump supporters, only now is the moment you think he has gone too far, you have to ask yourself: Why? Why did you turn a blind eye to the threat for so long?"

From trump's opening lines, very first remarks, in the 1-hour call is this

"We won very substantially in Georgia. You even see it by rally size, frankly. We’d be getting 25-30,000 people a rally, and the competition would get less than 100 people. And it never made sense."

Lol.
"You know, every single state, we won every state. We won every statehouse in the country. We held the Senate, which is shocking to people," Trump says on the call, not realizing how much this undermines his own argument of rigging by the Dems.
It's kinda astonishing just how many times Trump does his 'people are saying' 'people tell me' BS routine to Raffensperger on the call. Someone who
s been in as many court cases, on both sides, as Trump still doesn't get his unnamed 'people say' literally has no value whatsoever?

If you don’t love @CobraKaiSeries, I can’t be friends with you.
Also, aside from all the dudes from the 80s exchanging kicks, @HenggelerCourt is great in it, too. Just every role is so perfectly cast.
Just finished @CobraKaiSeries on @netflix. So, so, good.

I spent the entire last episode with either my hands over my mouth or WHOOPING loudly at the TV.

That end scene. That Kreese backstory. The Phil Collins 'air tonight' drums.

Perfection. I feel like a kid again.

I have to say that I’m only two episodes into the new season of @CobraKaiSeries but @WilliamZabka is, once again, hilarious. Forget the karate, his comedic timing is superb.
The John Kreese backstory is good, too
Watching Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso in the mechanic’s properly brought back memories of my childhood in the 80s. So soon after the Mandalorian finale, I feel utterly nostalgic and utterly spoiled. :-)

This year one of the only silver linings of the awful pandemic and lockdowns is that I finally got time to bingewatch a bunch of TV shows I should have watched before, lol.
Top of the list:
1) Ozark
2) Battlestar Galactica
3) Star Trek: Discovery
4) The Boys
5) Madam Secretary
Weird thing about binge watching multiple seasons of a single show in a couple of weeks, sometimes less than a week, is that you become obsessed with a bunch of characters that you were supposed to spend years getting to know & then you have to say farewell to them so quickly (!)
Actually I caught up on so much telly in 2020 that I forgot I also binged and loved @CobraKaiSeries and also liked Star Trek: Picard. And Designated Survivor and The Good Fight.

"It was as if my very presence in the White House had triggered a deep-seated panic, a sense that the natural order had been disrupted...For millions of Americans spooked by a Black man in the White House, [DJT] promised an elixir for their racial anxiety"

"Through Palin, it seemed as if the dark spirits that had long been lurking on the edges of the [GOP] - xenophobia, anti intellectualism, paranoid conspiracy theories, an antipathy toward Black and brown folks - were finding their way to center stage."

Obama is right to highlight #racialresentment over #economicanxiety when it comes to the GOP's messaging. He's also right to highlight the role of Palin, and of course by extension the hallowed John McCain!, in the run-up to Trump, as I have argued here:

It’s not often that you wake up to this 👀 Image
In case you’re wondering, I am at my naturalization ceremony. I’m becoming a U.S. citizen this morning, a dual U.S./UK national. It’s a socially-distanced ceremony but no welcome video from Trump @kumailn, just a letter. Image
Here’s the ‘fellow American’ welcome letter from Trump that I got. It’s not bad, by his standards. But he obviously didn’t write it - not just because of the pro-immigrant sentiment but also...there are no typos or spelling errors in it. I’m so used to his random Capitalizations. Image
