It’s worth noting that with the advent of contextual alternates in OpenType fonts, professional comic book typographers are including features that handle this for you. (I’m going to update the graphic. Shoulda done that before posting…grumble…)

Ask yourself…is this the personal pronoun “I”, or an acronym? If the answer is NO, then you use the slash-I if you want to follow English lang. mainstream comics.
